Week 3’s Private School Preview

Many of the private schools will once again look to return to the prep football gridiron this Friday, many of them competing in their second games of the season.  Here are a look at this week’s top games.

Charlotte Providence Day at Atlanta Carver
The biggest game on tap for North Carolina private high schools this week is Saturday’s clash between Charlotte Providence Day versus Carver High School in Atlanta.  Chad Grier’s Chargers are looking to get on the right track following last week’s 28-7 loss to public school power, Weddington.

Carver comes in into the contest at (0-1) but has 93 players on their roster, with three of their players tipping the scales at over 330-pounds.  The Charger offense needs to get it going against the fast Carver squad, Weddington held their typically-potent offense in check, limiting them to just 7 points; while senior quarterback Grant Logan only managed to complete 17 of 44 passes for 143-yards and one touchdown.

Charlotte Latin at Metrolina Christian
Charlotte Latin heads to Metrolina Christian on Friday night in a battle of early-season unbeatens’.  Latin, who is coming off an impressive win against Hickory High School last week, enters this matchup against a Metrolina team that has outscored its first two opponents by a score of 122-0.  Justin Wheeler, the Latin signal-caller looks to keep up an impressive start to the young season as he completed 17 of 24 passes for 250 yards and 2 touchdowns against the Red Tornadoes.  Metrolina Christian running back J.D. Williams has racked up 185 yds rushing on just 16 carries, with four touchdowns coming in their first two games.

Wake Christian at John Paul II
Third-year 8-man program John Paul II will play its second 11-man game of the season as they host Wake Christian on Thursday night in Greenville.  John Paul II beat East Chapel Hill, a 4A public school, 56-6 on Friday in their first-ever 11-man contest, and picked up this game against Wake Christian due to rescheduling, as the Bulldogs were unable to play their first two games because of Covid-19 related cancellations.

Harrells Christian at Pamlico County
Harrells Christian will travel to 1A public school power Pamlico County on Friday night.  Harrells comes into this game at (2-0) while Pamlico County comes in at (0-1), following a lopsided loss to 2A powerhouse Washington High School.

Devin Gardner, a 5-foot-11, 240-pound senior running back comes into the game with 434 yards rushing on just 40 carries with five touchdowns, for the double-wing attack of the Crusaders. Jayden Williams leads the Hurricanes offensive attack with 89 rushing yards.
