Known as the Guru of High School Football, Carolina Preps founder Chris Hughes has solidified himself as one of the leaders in covering scholastic sports, both in the Carolinas and across the nation.  Through his passion for sports, devotion to his home state of North Carolina, appreciation for history, desire for promoting young athletes, paired with his coaching background and authoritative writing voice, he brings strong leadership and credibility to the Carolina Preps team.

A native of Kannapolis, Hughes proudly served his country in the Armed Forces and has participated in numerous combat deployments. He also has over a decade of experience in coaching multiple sports at the high school level and youth levels.

Aside from his work at Carolina Preps, he has spent much of the past 15 years as a broadcaster and writer.  His work has been featured in The Charlotte Observer, The Raleigh News & Observer, Spectrum Sports, ESPN-U, and over the airwaves as a sports talk radio show host.

His most satisfying role to date has been a decade-long run volunteering with the Shrine Bowl of the Carolinas, the nation’s oldest High School Football All-Star Game.
