NCISAA Preview: Rabun Gap hosting Reynolds highlights big week for private schools

The top game for private schools this week is a highly anticipated match-up between public school 4A power A.C. Reynolds who will visit Rabun Gap Nacoochee.  Reynolds comes into the game at 1-2, but the Rockets have played an extremely tough early-season schedule, which includes losses to West Forsyth and Shelby.

Rabun Gap Nacoochee stands at 2-1 with wins against East Forsyth (Georgia) and Lakeview Christian (Georgia), and their only setback of the season came against the Tennessee powerhouse, Baylor School back in Week 1.

Senior signal-caller Aiden Semo leads the Eagles passing attack, completing 25 of 55 passes for 413 yards and five touchdowns to just two interceptions.   One of Semo’s primary targets, 6-foot-3 wideout Tucker Holloway leads them in receiving with eight catches for 196 yards and two touchdowns.

The Eagles feature a two-headed monster in their backfield with Clement Niyokindi and Yunas Altinicar both carrying the mail for head coach Joe Sturdivant’s program.  The two junior ball carriers have rushed for a combined 622 yards on 55 carries, and the duo has accounted for four touchdowns in their first three games.

Charlotte Country Day will host SCISA power Hammond School out of Columbia, S.C. on Friday night at Belk Stadium.  Hammond enters the contest undefeated with a 2-0 record.  The Skyhawks have outscored their first two opponents by a combined 93 points to just 14.  Senior running back C.J. Stokes, a University of Michigan commit is one of the featured athletes that Hammond will showcase in this match-up against the 0-2 Buccaneers.

Head football coach Drew Whitman’s Country Day squad has played a very tough early-season slate and has lost to solid programs from Georiga and South Carolina, and Friday’s battle won’t get any easier.

In Western North Carolina, Christ School will travel to Columbus to take on Polk County, a public school 2A team this Friday.  The Greenies come into the battle at 0-1, losing 35-21 in the opening week of the season to Kentucky powerhouse Corbin.

Head coach Chad Walker’s team put up a solid effort against the undefeated Redhounds and look to get into the win column this Friday led by senior field general A.J. Simpkins.  In the season opener, Simpkins completed 11 of 19 pass attempts for 196 yards and 2 touchdowns while also running for 23 yards on just three carries. 6-foot-1, 190-pound  sophomore wideout Zach Myers leads the team in receiving with for catches for 120 yards.  Sophomore power-5 recruit Cayden Jones leads the team on defense with 13 tackles and two forced fumbles.

Arendell Parrott, the undefeated defending NCISAA Divison-1 8-Man Football champions travels to Cary Christian, who also comes into the contest at 2-0.  In what could be a state finals preview, both Parrott and Cary enter into this game flying high. Parrott defeated both Wayne Christian and Bear Grass Charter by a combined 114-34 points, which includes playing as an 11-man team in the battle against the NCHSAA’s Bear Grass.

Cary Christian has outscored their first two opponents 118-38 points and is led by senior quarterback Luke Harvey, who has connected on 18 of 32 passes for 304 yards and five touchdowns.  Chide Ogan leads the rushing attack with 11 carries for 137 yards and four touchdowns.

5th-year senior quarterback Cole Dawson, who played at Parrott Academy for his freshman season but spent two years at Greene Central leads the Patriots passing attack with 352 yards, completing 17 of 27 passes with four touchdowns and zero interceptions.  Senior running back Morgan McPhaul leads the ground attack with 16 carries for 200 yards and six touchdowns in two games.
