Could Hendersonville be on the verge of a breakout?

Hendersonville head football coach Kirron Ward.

As I was making my rounds through the Western part of North Carolina today, I stopped by and visited with Hendersonville head football coach Kirron Ward to see how the Bearcats were looking for the upcoming 2023 season.

Fresh off of a 9-3 campaign, Ward couldn’t be more excited about the potential that this upcoming team has.  Following last year’s disappointing second-round playoff exit, the team is a year older, considerably stronger, and led by a strong core of returning starters whose goal is to advance to the deep rounds of the playoffs this upcoming November.

Leading the charge for the Bearcats will be C.J. Landrum.  Looking at his film, it’s easy to see why colleges from across the country have been stopping by to check out the 6-foot-3 rising star.  He’s got all the intangibles you would want in a collegiate defender.  He’s strong enough to be a run-stopping monster at defensive end, but quick enough to be a potent edge rusher or even an outside linebacker.

I’m not going to go as far as predicting a state championship run for this program, but if they can fill a few key spots, including finding a quarterback that’s ready to take the keys, this squad could do some special things.

The Bearcats open the 2023 season on the road against North Henderson on August 18th.
