Meet Chris Hughes

Chris Hughes, the founder of Carolina Preps, has established himself as a prominent figure in scholastic sports coverage, both in the Carolinas and nationwide. Driven by his passion for sports, dedication to his home state of North Carolina, respect for history, and commitment to uplifting young athletes and communities, Hughes combines his coaching experience and authoritative voice to bring leadership and credibility to the Carolina Preps team.

A native of Kannapolis, Hughes proudly served in the Armed Forces, participating in several combat deployments. He also brings over a decade of experience coaching high school and youth sports, further solidifying his expertise in the field.

Beyond his work with Carolina Preps, Hughes has spent the past 15 years as a broadcaster and writer, with his contributions featured in outlets such as The Charlotte Observer, The Raleigh News & Observer, Spectrum Sports, ESPN, and numerous other print, radio, and television outlets.

Among the many roles he’s held in high school sports, Hughes finds his work as a decade-long volunteer with the Shrine Bowl of the Carolinas—America’s oldest high school football all-star game—as his most fulfilling.
