Raleigh Charter Sweeps 1A/2A Swimming and Diving Championships

CARY – The Raleigh Charter Phoenix swept the 1A/2A NCHSAA Swimming and Diving Championships on Saturday night at the Triangle Aquatic Center as both men’s and women’s teams took the top spots.
The Championship is the seventh title for the women’s program (first since 2018), and third for the men, who also won last year and in 2018.
In the women’s competition, the Phoenix dominated in the relays as Emily Lee, Christiana Hoang, Dorothy Ellen Grant and Reina Liu won the 200-Yard Medley Relay, and Grant, Allyson Deans, Hoang and Liu won the 400 free relay.
Katie Hu, Sydney Chase, Deans and Derin Sen took second in the 200-Yard Freestyle Relay.

In the 500, she posted a time of 4:45.36 more than 3.5 seconds better than the previous record, and in the 200, she broke the old record by 1.18 seconds. Both previously belonged to Emily Knorr from Salisbury. Collins was named the meet’s Most Outstanding Swimmer.
In the Diving Competition, Community School of Davidson’s Addison Nardone took the top spot and Avery Nardone took third. Thomas Jefferson’s Camryn Clark finished second.
