Historic program makes big hire

Robbinsville Black Knights heading in new direction following retirement of Walsh

Selecting the right coach is a pivotal decision for any school, but for a program with a storied history of success, championships, and accolades like Robbinsville, finding the perfect leader is even more critical.

In this instance, Robbinsville didn’t have to search far to find a worthy successor to legendary coach Dee Walsh, who retired after the 2024 season.  The school opted to promote from within, naming longtime assistant Lucas Ford as the new head coach and athletic director.

Ford, a Robbinsville native, has dreamed of this role since childhood.  Now, he has the chance to lead the program that holds deep personal significance for him.

“I’m incredibly excited to take this job,” Ford said enthusiastically.  “This is my dream job, I’ve turned down other opportunities in recent years because Robbinsville is where I’m meant to be.  I’m ready to hit the ground running.”

With 19 seasons as an assistant coach in the program and experience as head coach for the girls’ basketball team (137-60 record), Ford brings a wealth of knowledge and passion to his new role.
