WILMINGTON, NC — March 14, 2024: In just over a week, the top senior high school boys and girls from North Carolina and South Carolina will face off in the 2024 Carolinas Classic All-Star Basketball Games. The event, hosted by the North Carolina Coaches Association and the South Carolina Athletic Coaches Association and sponsored by House of Raeford Farms FLOCK, culminates at John T. Hoggard High School in Wilmington on Saturday, March 23.
“Once again the Carolinas Classic rosters are loaded with talent”, said Greg Grantham, representative of the North Carolina Coaches Association and executive director of the North Carolina Basketball Coaches Association. “The basketball action at the Classic has always been super competitive and exciting. Among the notable boys on North Carolina’s team are Isaiah Evans from North Mecklenburg and a Duke University commit. Ranked as the number one shooting guard in the state, Isaiah also is a selectee to the McDonald’s All-American team. Also headed to an ACC school is another top four shooting guard Jayden “Juke” Harris of Salisbury High (Wake Forest), a McDonald’s All-American nominee. Rounding out the group of ACC bound athletes is Sir Mohammed, a product of Myers Park and going to Notre Dame. Bishop Boswell, also of Myers Park and #3 point guard in the state, moves on to Tennessee in the SEC.
Not to be outdone, the South Carolina boys feature shooting guards Cam Scott (Texas) and Jaxon Prunty, both of Lexington High and members of the 5A state championship team and each McDonald’s All-American nominees. The squad also lists three of the state’s top big men in Julen Iturbe – 6’7”, Riverside High (American University); Ellis Graham – 6’10”, Gray Collegiate (Charleston Southern); and Alex Atkinson – 6’9”, Lower Richland High (Presbyterian College). Finally, Gray Collegiate’s Braylhan Thomas, ranked as South Carolina’s #1 small forward, will play in the Classic before joining the Georgia Southern Eagles next fall.
Leading the North Carolina girls is Jayda Angel of Cape Fear High (Elon University), the state’s 2024 scoring leader with outstanding per game averages of 34 points, 10 rebounds, 6 assists, and 8 steals. Other top players on the NC squad are Lauren Arnold of West Rowan (Mars Hill); Lili Booker, Mallard Creek (Longwood University); and Audra Hillman, Wake Forest High (USC-Beaufort). The South Carolina team includes Raina McGowens of Wren High, ranked as the #3 player in the state, and committed to UNC-Asheville. Joining her is Jaleya Ford, who led Lake View High to their first 1A state championship. Other college-committed teammates are Terriana Gray, AC Flora High (Alabama A & M) and Jasmine Frierson, Hartsville High (Lander University).
The Carolinas Classic All-Star Basketball Games will not only highlight basketball talent, but will also give back to the community. Through the generosity of House of Raeford Farms FLOCK, all ticket proceeds benefit Access of Wilmington, a local non-profit organization eliminating barriers to health and wellness through sports, recreation and fitness for those in the community living with disabilities.
Tickets to the games are available for purchase online and are $10 for adults and $5 for children and students. The girls’ game begins at 3:00 p.m. followed by the boys’ competition.
