First reported by Nick Stevens of HighSchoolOT, New Bern High School will be forfeiting its 4A football state championship following an investigation into the participation of academically ineligible players.

All wins that academically ineligible players played in must be forfeited, including the state championship victory over Greensboro Grimsley.

Additionally, New Bern will be on probation for the 2023 season.
