We are at the last stop in the 2021 NCISAA football season and the finals matchups are the perfect ending for a great season of NC private school football. The headlining game will put the #1 Rabun Gap Nacoochee Eagles in a matchup with the #2 Providence Day Chargers for the D1 state title.
In their regular-season matchup at Overcash Stadium on the campus of Providence Day on October 22nd, the Chargers got the upset win 25-14 behind Grantt Logans 16-28 passing for 230 yards and a TD and also 119 yards rushing on 17 carries and 2 TD’s. Kenyaan Abdul-Rahim leads the Chargers defensively with 25 tackles, 5 for loss, and a sack.
The Eagles struggled to score against the Chargers on the night even though they kept up in total yardage, 377 for the Eagles to 400 for the Chargers. This win gave PDS the home field for tonight’s final.
Expect the usual suspects for Providence Day leading them tonight, Logan is the leader of the team at the quarterback position, he is 150-249 for 2038 yards and 23 TD passes with only 6 INT’s. Logan and Jr RB Chris Peal have rushed for 1296 yards between them with 16 TD’s. Soph WR duo of Jordan Shipp, 44 catches for 639 yards and 8 TD’s, and Channing Goodwin, 41 catches for 664 yards with 7 TD’s.
The Eagles will need big-time games from Sr QB Aiden Semo, 82-154 for 1358 yards with 13 TD throws and only 3 INT’s. The rushing attack needs big gains from Jr RB Clement Niyokindi, who has 840 yards on 111 carries with 9 TD’s, also fellow Jr RB Yunas Altincinar who has 705 yards on 101 carries and 7 TD’s. Sr WR Tucker Holloway who has 32 catches for 620 yards with 6 TD’s will also be called on to have a big game. This will be a big-time game in Charlotte tonight featuring multiple FBS power 5 recruits.
In the D2 finals, we have the #7 Cabarrus Warriors heading to southeast NC to face the #5 Harrell’s Christian Crusaders in Murphy-Johnson stadium. In an early-season matchup, the Crusaders went to Randy Marion Stadium and came out with a 21-14 win.
Sr RB for the Crusaders Devin Gardner ran for 245 yards and 2 TD’s to lead Harrell’s Christian. Soph QB Tyler Green threw for 269 yards on 19-32 passing with 2 TD’s using multiple receivers lead the Warriors. This game will be a clash of old school football in Harrell’s Christian and their 90-95 percent rushing attack, 3900 yards, against a balanced attack coming from the Cabarrus Warriors with 2500 yards passing and 2100 yards rushing.
The D2 state championship game should be a barn burner!
The NCISAA 8 Man season came to an end last Friday with Cary Christian flexing their offensive muscles in a 72-48 win against then #1 John Paul II. Sr RB/LB Chide Ogan proved to be a top player in the state regardless of classification with 259 yards rushing and 6 TD’s, he also had 17 tackles on defense.
There will be an all-star game for the 8-man division this Saturday in Virginia against the Virginia 8 man all-stars, Seniors from John Paul ll, Parrott Academy, Rocky Mount Academy, Grace Christian, Faith Christian, Wayne Christian, and Halifax Academy will represent NC, the ultra-talented Sr class from Cary Christian will have to miss out due to a retreat already planned.
