NCISAA Preview for Week 10

With only two weeks remaining in the 2021 NCISAA regular season, it’s down to the wire in the private school ranks.  The biggest game in the NCISAA this week will feature top-ranked Rabun Gap-Nacoochee, who will visit third-ranked Providence Day at Overcash stadium in Charlotte.

Rabun Gap-Nacoochee (6-1), who has been the top-ranked team all season comes into the clash following a huge victory over second-ranked Charlotte Latin last Friday.  The Eagles were once again led by their dependable senior quarterback Aiden Semo, who was 6 of 9 passing for 135 yards and a touchdown pass.  Coleman Bryson (3 carries for 72 yds 1 TD), Clemente Niyokindi (11 carries for 64 yds), and Yunas Altincinar (7 carries for 48 yds 1 TD) led the ground attack for the Eagles against the Hawks.

Providence Day (4-3) comes in after an exciting overtime victory against fifth-ranked Charlotte Christian,  where the Chargers prevailed 48-47.

Grantt Logan was a one-man wrecking ball against the Knights, throwing for 206 yds and four touchdowns while also rushing for 97 yards and a score. He will need the same energy this week against the vaunted Eagles defense.  This could be another classic game.

Charlotte Christian (3-4) heads west to Arden for a Big South clash with fourth-ranked Christ School (2-4) at Fayssoux Field.  The Knights will look to get back on track after a gut-wrenching loss last week to Providence Day. Junior quarterback Cameron Estep, the son of head coach Jason Estep was the lone signal-caller for the Knights, and went 19 of 34 passing for 151 yards, two touchdowns and an interception.  Kyron Jones rushed for a team-high of 98 yds on 8 carries with two touchdowns.  They will need to up their output this week against a strong Greenie defense.

The Greenies are coming into the week off a win for only the second time this season, but what a win it was against conference rival Charlotte Country Day, with the final being 45-0.

Quarterback AJ Simpkins was 6 of 7 passing for 220 yards and two touchdowns with no giveaways.  Zack Myers was his favorite target, he reeled in three catches for 114 yds and a score.  Bryce Sain rushed for 118 yds and three touchdowns.

Playoff seedings will definitely be shaken up following this game as the loser will likely play in the D2 playoffs, while the winner has a shot at the D1 playoffs in their sights.

Metrolina Christian (7-1) will head to Concord to play the Cabarrus Warriors (6-1) in a key Piedmont Conference game. MCA comes in after an impressive win over High Point Christian last week by a score of  31-7.  Junior quarterback Reid Eighmy was 12 of 17 passing for 192 yds and 3 touchdowns, but he did throw two picks in the game.

Eighmy’s favorite target was senior wideout Caleb Titherington, who caught 8 balls for 127 yards and three touchdowns.  Jake Dolley led the defense with nine tackles.

The Cabarrus Warriors, who are a co-op team consisting of players from Cannon School and Concord Academy, come into this contest following an easy 42-15 win over Southlake Christian. Sophomore quarterback Tyler Green was 8 of 12 for 117 yards passing with two touchdowns.  Will Jones rushed for 227 yds on just 20 carries with four touchdowns.

Senior linebacker Josh Reid had 14 tackles and six for loss to anchor the Warriors’ defense.  This game will decide the conference champ in the NCISAA Piedmont conference.

In 8-Man Football, the biggest game is between fifth-ranked Faith Christian (3-3), who is heading to Wake County to take on third-ranked Cary Christian (5-2). Faith Christian is reeling after three-straight losses have them on the outside of the playoffs looking in.

Do-everything running back DeAnthony Joyner comes into the game after a multiple touchdown game on Monday against Rocky Mount Academy. He will need to have one of his biggest games of the year because if the Patriots fall, they will be eliminated from the playoff conversation.

Cary Christian comes in averaging 42 points per game and is led by senior quarterback Luke Harvey, son of former N.C. State quarterback Terry Harvey.  The younger Harvey has thrown for 1267 yds and 15 touchdowns with eight interceptions. Fellow senior Chide Ogan is the leading rusher with 501 yds and 11 touchdowns.

If the Knights win, they lock up the 3rd place seed, if the Patriots win, they will have the tie-breaker against Cary Christian, and their playoff chances will become clearer after the last week in the regular season.  This is a big game in Cary so come early for a good seat!
