A lifelong student of the game, Buddy Amerson is a senior football analyst for Carolina Preps. He spent more than 25 years on the sideline as an assistant football coach at A.L. Brown High School in Kannapolis and also serves as a broadcaster for the Wonder Radio Network.
As a former player and coach, Amerson brings valuable insight to the team and has a vast knowledge of x’s and o’s as well as having coached numerous amounts of Division I and NFL football players.
Paul has become one of the leading authorities in the region when it comes to covering high school sports in Western North Carolina. He has a vast knowledge of the game and has experience not only in coaching at the high school level, but also working as a member of the media.
A 4-sport letterman at Cullowhee High School, Paul has spent most of his adult lifetime around high school sporting events. A graduate of Western Carolina University, Paul served as the Sports Editor at The Franklin Press from 2000-02 and also has coached high school football, most recently at Mattamuskeet where he was the offensive coordinator from 2007-08, head varsity coach for girls basketball, and head baseball coach at Mattamuskeet Middle School.
Paul serves as the Western North Carolina senior football analyst and can be heard throughout the year on CarolinaPreps.com broadcasts.
Jeff Chapman has spent nearly a quarter-century on the sidelines as a high school coach in North Carolina and continues to work with football coaches. While he’s solidified himself as one of the best designers and developers of weight rooms, he also contributes his time as a senior football advisor at CarolinaPreps.com and works to orchestrate coaching clinics throughout the year.
No other media member in Eastern North Carolina has as recognizable of a voice as Gattis Hodges. He’s been a mainstay on the airways calling sporting events since the early 1980’s. Currently the play-by-play voice of Chowan University Athletics, a position he’s held since 1993, he’s also a veteran of calling high school games as he’s been the play-by-play voice of Hertford County Football on WDLZ for over 24 years.
Aside from calling games on the radio, he’s the host of “Talking Sports” on the First Media Radio Network and has been a columnist for the Roanoke-Chowan News Herald.
He’s a member of the Jim Garrison Sports Hall of Fame at Chowan University and he’s traveled the country calling sporting events ranging from North Carolina and Virginia state championships, Babe Ruth World Series National Championship games, and several NCAA Tournament basketball games.
He serves as the Northeastern North Carolina correspondent for CarolinaPreps.com and can be heard throughout the season on Carolina Preps broadcasts.
As one of the most well known and well respected coaches in North Carolina, Coach Smith serves as a Carolina Preps brand ambassador and is a senior consultant for high school football coaching relations. Smith, who was a letter winning football player for the University of South Carolina, led Concord High School for 29 seasons and posted a 254-101-1 record and led the Spiders to two state championships.
Since his retirement from coaching, he has stayed very active in the football community and has traveled across the country speaking for USA Football and has worked closely with the Carolina Panthers.
Justin serves the CarolinaPreps.com team as its Senior Basketball Analyst and Basketball Recruiting expert. A native of Asheville, N.C., very few insiders are as tied in to the prep hoops scene as Justin.
