Buddy Amerson

Buddy Amerson

A lifelong student of the game, Buddy Amerson is a senior football analyst for Carolina Preps.  He spent more than 25 years on the sideline as an assistant football coach at A.L. Brown High School in Kannapolis and also serves as a broadcaster for the Wonder Radio Network.

As a former player and coach, Amerson brings valuable insight to the team and has a vast knowledge of x’s and o’s as well as having coached numerous amounts of Division I and NFL football players.


Paul Graham

Paul Graham

Paul has become one of the leading authorities in the region when it comes to covering high school sports in Western North Carolina.  He has a vast knowledge of the game and has experience not only in coaching at the high school level, but also working as a member of the media.

A 4-sport letterman at Cullowhee High School, Paul has spent most of his adult lifetime around high school sporting events.  A graduate of Western Carolina University, Paul served as the Sports Editor at The Franklin Press from 2000-02 and also has coached high school football, most recently at Mattamuskeet where he was the offensive coordinator from 2007-08, head varsity coach for girls basketball, and head baseball coach at Mattamuskeet Middle School.

Paul serves as the Western North Carolina senior football analyst and can be heard throughout the year on broadcasts.



Harry Nostrant

Harry Nostrant

Harry has been a contributor to for over five years and serves the CP team as a Senior Football Analyst.  Harry’s coverage area includes the Charlotte-Metro and Lake Norman regions of North Carolina.  Aside from his work here at, he can be found over the airways on WAME 92.9 FM as he’s a co-host of The Sports Recap Show in Statesville, N.C.



Jeff Chapman

Jeff Chapman

Jeff Chapman has spent nearly a quarter-century on the sidelines as a high school coach in North Carolina and continues to work with football coaches today as the Mid-Atlantic Sales Manager for Dynamic Fitness and Strength.  While he’s solidified himself as one of the best designers and developers of weight rooms, he also contributes his time as a senior football advisor at and works to orchestrate coaching clinics throughout the year.



Gattis Hodges

Gattis Hodges

No other media member in Eastern North Carolina has as recognizable of a voice as Gattis Hodges.  He’s been a mainstay on the airways calling sporting events since the early 1980’s.  Currently the play-by-play voice of Chowan University Athletics, a position he’s held since 1993, he’s also a veteran of calling high school games as he’s been the play-by-play voice of Hertford County Football on WDLZ for over 24 years.

Aside from calling games on the radio, he’s the host of “Talking Sports” on the First Media Radio Network and has been a columnist for the Roanoke-Chowan News Herald.

He’s a member of the Jim Garrison Sports Hall of Fame at Chowan University and he’s traveled the country calling sporting events ranging from North Carolina and Virginia state championships, Babe Ruth World Series National Championship games, and several NCAA Tournament basketball games.

He serves as the Northeastern North Carolina correspondent for and can be heard throughout the season on Carolina Preps broadcasts.



E.Z. Smith

E.Z. Smith

As one of the most well known and well respected coaches in North Carolina, Coach Smith serves as a Carolina Preps brand ambassador and is a senior consultant for high school football coaching relations.  Smith, who was a letter winning football player for the University of South Carolina, led Concord High School for 29 seasons and posted a 254-101-1 record and led the Spiders to two state championships.

Since his retirement from coaching, he has stayed very active in the football community and has traveled across the country speaking for USA Football and has worked closely with the Carolina Panthers.



Jay Sonnhalter

Jay Sonnhalter

Jay Sonnhalter works with Chris Hughes and the team as a football analyst and personality on various Carolina Preps webcasts.  You can also see Jay on the air broadcasting college sporting events around the nation and has been a broadcaster for Time Warner / Spectrum Sports as an on-air analyst for the NCHSAA Game of the Week and state championship games as well as co-hosting the High School Football Blitz along side Hughes and Chris Edwards.

Sonnhalter was a highly recruited tight end out of Wakefield High School and starred on the gridiron for East Carolina University before later earning a spot in preseason camp with the Washington Redskins.



Larry Kennedy

Larry Kennedy Jr.

Few people are as heavily involved in promoting football in the Carolinas and the Southeast as Larry Kennedy, Jr.  A former All-American defensive back for the University of Florida, he is the Key Account Manager and Elite Athlete and Coach Liaison at Riddell and spends his time working with numerous football organizations to promote the game and educate players and parents on the ins and outs of the recruiting process and train and coach them as they begin their youth football careers.

Danny O’Brien

Danny O’Brien

A highly recruited quarterback out of East Forsyth High School, Danny O’Brien went on to have a successful college football career at Maryland where he won 2010 ACC Rookie of the Year and Freshman All-American honors, and later would transfer to Wisconsin where he helped lead the Badgers to a 2012 Big Ten Championship.

O’Brien recently signed with the Edmonton Eskimos of the Canadian Football League and before that spent three seasons playing quarterback for the Ottawa Redblacks where he helped lead them to the 2016 Grey Cup.

When he’s away from the gridiron, O’Brien trains local athletes and orchestrates the very successful DOB Elite Camps.  He serves as a football analyst for the Carolina Preps team and can be seen co-hosting CP webcasts through the year.



Jimmy Wallace

Jimmy  Wallace

One of the most recognizable and most successful head coaches in the history of South Carolina, Jimmy Wallace continues to give back to the game in the name of player safety and coaching education. Wallace is heavily involved with USA Football and is a master trainer with the Heads Up Program.  He works closely with the Carolina Panthers and travels across the country speaking at football clinics.

Wallace spent over 40 years in coaching and won multiple state championships and over 300 games at Rock Hill Northwestern High School.

He serves Carolina Preps as a senior advisor on safety and coaching relations and is an ambassador of the Carolina Preps brand.


Justin Byerly

Justin serves the team as its Senior Basketball Analyst and Basketball Recruiting expert.  A native of Asheville, N.C., very few insiders are as tied in to the prep hoops scene as Justin.
