If Holmes wins the 1AA state title I will give it to Hoggard!  That will be an impressive run!  If East Surry would run impressively Lowman is a good choice.  See Walsh falls in behind those two for me.   Very consistent at Robbinsville!

If Grimsley wins 4A Brown is the winner. If not and  Till or Ferebee are my choice if they win 4AA.

Devine at Burns is great choice regardless as Bazzle would be.

I seen in Statesville Landmark that Coach Randall Gusler of Statesville was recognized as coach of the week by Carolina Panthers. He will be recognized along with other coaches December 15 at the Bank of America Stadium.

Is this one award or four awards? Either way I think that this should be voted on after the playoffs are over. Just my opinion.

Win or lose Friday I think it is Till. Program was teetering 3 years ago. If there ever was a community tied to a program it has to be Richmond County for better or worse. He brings an incredible amount of juice to the entire state in football.

Surprised not to see Conley's Nate Conner on your 3A list.  Preseason ranked 3rd in the Eastern Carolina 3A/4A due to the graduation of a large Sr class in 2019 along with losing WR CJ Johnson.  Started the season off 0-3 and then tore through the league undefeated to win the conference championship.  He does a great job of changing his offense to fit his athletes and puts up big numbers every season.  Conner has definitely flown under the radar.

Nowell from New Bern is a good candidate. Took over a 2-win team that hadn't won a playoff game since their title in 2014. Whole new coaching staff, whole new scheme and a majority of the kids going both ways. 10 wins in year number one while making the 3rd round of the 4A Playoffs with a roster size of barely 40 kids.

I would rank Hoke's coach George Small in the top 10 at least... with his Resume' and whats he's done with Hoke these past couple years is impressive. As long as he's there, Hoke will be a contender, and when they get the right players... look out.

1A

Robert Britt at Rosewood. A program known for losing seasons makes a turn.

2A

Darren Ponder at West Lincoln. First playoff win in school history. First time hosting a playoff game in school history. Third round game against power Shelby. Nick Bazzle is on that short list. Bad program goes to 11-1 and third round OT loss.

3A

Brian Foster of Southern Nash.

4A

Antwon Stevenson of Glenn High. Great season and some wins over teams he was supposed to lose to. Maybe this is a team with sustained future potential.

Never coached a losing season

.821 record overall

Hasn't played a team smaller than Mitchell

Beat 3a Erwin

 Beat 2a Owen

Beat 4a McDowell

Shutout Polk twice

Beat 1aa state powerhouse Swain by 30

Allowed 67 points all year

4 western final appearances in 5 years.

My vote is for Habich at Watauga.  He took a good team, short of numbers, but with about a half dozen good players playing both ways  and coached them to terrific. Don't forget Watauga lost stud RB/LB Bryce Satterfield to injury before the conference season began.
