Update from the Crest game.  CJ Mayhue had 12 k's on the night.  Heard his fastball during the offseason was hitting 92-93 on a regular basis.  With his off speed stuff, CJ should have a good year.  He has signed with ECU, but he's getting some looks from the scouts.

Thursday I watched Freedom beat Draughn 11-1 at Big League Camp near Marion on Lake James. https://www.bigleaguecamp.com/

That facility is pretty new and someone has spent a lot of money to set it up.  They have been hosting a lot of college and high school games there and they host all of McDowell county’s little league games.  It is a little off the beaten path, but very nice.

Crest 7 North Gaston 6 8 innings

Crest was up 6-0 going into the 7th.  North Gaston scored 6 in the 7th and I think hit one ball out of the infield.  Crest had 3 errors that inning.  Got the walk off hit in the bottom of the 8th.

Congratulations to Mooresville performance. Sounded like a triller. BluedevilsbiggestFan how is that conference shaping up. Who is leading in that conference.

Currently 4th in 3A Max Preps.  When CJ is on the mound Crest is nearly unbeatable.  I think this years Crest team has more speed than the last couple of years squads and they can really capitalize on mistakes. They have been really fun to watch.  It will be interesting to see how the rest of the staff responds come playoff time.  I believe we have a chance to see another Crest/New Hanover match-up but there is a lot of baseball to be played and a lot of good teams in the west.

Interesting next game for Crest.  They are playing Jefferson Forest out of VA in the Shelby Easter tourney.  Jefferson Forest is a top 10 4A team in VA.  Don't know a whole lot about them but I would think they are a talented team.

Even tough I don’t keep up with baseball I am keeping an eye on this Crest team. Best of luck as they enter the playoffs. They look like the team to beat.

It has been a fun season so far.  Crest is in a run of talent you felt like had a chance to be pretty good as you watched them come up through the little leagues.  Going to be a lot of great teams in the playoffs and baseball can be a fickle animal.  TC Roberson and Carson are going to be tough.  Also, Marvin Ridge and Asheville will be tough outs. Also looking forward to seeing how the rest of the Big South can do in the state tournament.  North Gaston is an excellent team.  Kings Mtn and Burns can be dangerous.

Crest 3 North Gaston 2

Great game.  North Gaston jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first.  Crest tied it in the bottom of the third thanks to a CJ Mayhue double.  Crest took the lead 3-2 when Mayhue went deep in the 6th.  Trevor Nanney got the start for Crest with Lawson Harrill coming on in relief.

Crest is Big South regular season and tourney champs.
