  1. We are hosting a jamboree style scrimmage at Avery High School on August 11 at 6pm. Currently we have us, Enka, Patton and Happy Valley(TN) as participants. We are looking to add 1 more team to this. If you are interested, please contact Assistant Coach TC Guyer at tcguyer@averyschools.net. Thanks
  2. How does Asheville Christian Academy starting a football team affect Asheville and the surrounding areas? https://www.citizen-times.com/story/sports/high-school/hshuddle/2019/12/12/asheville-christian-academy-field-varsity-football-team-2020/4408897002/
  3. It hasn't really been widely publicized, but I've confirmed that Rosman HS has parted ways with head football coach Dan Essenberg. He was only on the job for one season, coming out of retirement to accept it, following a long stint at Brevard. I'm told that the school possibly won't even open the position, and may opt to hire from within. I highly doubt that there would be many takers looking to go there either, given their small size, and recent lack of success. I still think that closing the school and consolidating with Brevard could be the best avenue for success of that community, and would give those students access to more resources. The school hasn't posted a winning season in five years, and hasn't seen back-to-back winning marks since the 1990's.
  4. This is a conversation that was had a few days ago and carried over after Robbinsville won yesterday. How would you rank the programs in WNC in historical prospective? Obviously you count what a program is doing currently but also factors in the whole body of work. And by WNC it was meant Polk County/West. So the challenge is to list the top 10 programs of all time in WNC and list them in order. Be curious to see what everyone’s list is.
  5. Here at BB&T Field to watch these two electric western 2A teams try to win state titles today. Shelby and Reidsville both are favored by at least 10 points and are looking to add to their considerable legacy. Shelby and Salisbury kickoff in about 8 minutes. Keep your comments, thoughts and observations coming folks.

  12. Good luck to all your teams. Sorry for the title but it seems everyone wants to be part because it always starts an argument over who we are talking to and about.

Got 5 of 6 teams in these playoffs. Take care of business! Best of luck to all!
  16. Asheville is a program that seems to have decline in recent years and North Buncombe has improved. Last week N. Buncombe lost to a good AC Reynolds 54-6. Does Asheville have anything for N. Buncombe or maybe a trap game for N. Buncombe. Or is Asheville the better team. I maybe wrong but going with N. Buncombe in a close one but I’m sure the mountain posters have some good insight with this game.
  17. Who's the strongest /or pick to go furthest come playoff time?
  18. The Swain at Robbinsville game was rained out on Friday and will now be played on Monday, Oct. 28th at 7:30 p.m. I think that @btango and I may be making the trek up to Graham County for the game.
  19. Friday, Oct. 25 Another decent week of football to look forward to. Polk County suffered a rare loss to Owena nd now looks to bounce back against a tough Avery team. Swain and Robbinsville square off at Big Oaks to further muddle the water in the ever tough SMC. This game will be huge in the grand scheme of things. Game Of The Week: Smoky Mountain at Brevard: 31-27 Can the Mustangs continue beating good teams? This season is shaping up to be the best regular season since 1992. The Mustangs face a very battle-tested Brevard who only have one loss (22-13 @ Heritage). Can the Blue Devils slow down the rushing attack of Smoky and win? Rosman at Murphy: 56-7 Enka at Erwin: 31-8 Reynolds at North Buncombe: 42-21 Owen at Mountain Heritage: 28-20 North Henderson at Roberson: 30-3 Pisgah at Hendersonville: 21-19 Tuscola at West Henderson: 41-14 Madison at Mitchell: 53-3 Copper Basin at Andrews: 28-13 Smoky Mountain at Brevard: 31-27 Cherokee at Hayesville: 38-10 Polk County at Avery: Polk 28-26 East Henderson at Franklin: 28-18 McDowell at Watauga: 49-10 Swain at Robbinsville: 31-27
  20. Well let’s get this one started. Owen coming off a big win over Polk an Friday night and Heritage coming off their home win against rival Mitchell. This one will be played at Mtn. Heritage. I heard there may have been some ejections in this game, that could possibly be a factor this coming Friday. Possibly some of the Owen faithful or Coach Turner can shed some light if this is just rumor or actually an issue. I’m going with Heritage at home 28-7 if both teams are healthy.
  21. This could be a very interesting match up. Any thoughts?
  22. Former Hendersonville QB Mike Schmidt came up huge for my Air Force Falcons last night. For those of you that didn’t stay up for the late night game like me since I have a rooting interest in my alma mater... Schmidt has been the 3rd team QB this year. The top 2 have been a little banged up on & off and the 2nd teamer didn’t make the trip for the game at Hawaii. The starter went down on the 1st series of the game for Air Force. Schmidt came in and went 5/6 passing for 147 yards and 1 TD. He ran 14 times for 120 yards & 3 TDs. I didn’t realize he had the kind of speed he showed on a 61 yard TD run off the option where he pulled away from the Hawaii DB’s. Made great decisions running the option all night & led Air Force to victory. The announcers couldn’t stop talking about the need to find him a spot on the field even when the starter comes back. Kudos to a NC kid on a great performance.

  24. Big game in Buncombe County this Friday as the Reynolds Rockets travel up to Weaverville to take on North Buncombe. Any thoughts on this Western Mountain Athletic conference battle?
