  1. Concord gets their first win of the year over Robinson 21-18. Surprised jacks2start didn't get this topic started
  2. Can anybody provide me with information about South Rowan. Returning starters.... Outlook for season....etc?
  3. Coaches, fans and forum followers, The work on Friday Night Football N.C. Magazine’s annual season preview edition continues. We publish the preview this summer - every high school will receive one and others may be purchased online and at various news stands. With a summer publication date, the pressure is on to complete team capsules and other stories very soon. I’m working on the “West,” “Midwest” and “Charlotte” regions and am lacking about 70 teams. I’ll keep making calls and sending emails directly to the schools, but any assistance you can provide by completing the online survey at www.fnfsurvey.com will be a great help. The teams I haven’t heard from or talked to follow. I know some of these are on the coach’s moving van, but any insight into the teams and returning athletes that can be provided by a coach or AD will help us produce a more complete preview. Midwest Alexander Central, Ashbrook, Bandys, Fred T. Foard, Hickory, Carson, Kings Mountain, Newton-Conover, North Iredell, North Rowan, North Wilkes, South Caldwell, South Iredell, Statesville, Watauga, West Iredell, West Wilkes. West Andrews, Asheville School, Cherokee, Christ School, Erwin, Enka, Hayesville, Hendersonville, Madison, McDowell, Murphy, North Henderson, Pisgah, Polk County, Robbinsville, Rosman, Smoky Mountain, Swain County, T.C. Roberson, Thomas Jefferson Academy, Tuscola, Victory Christian Center. Charlotte Albemarle, Ardrey Kell, Berry Academy, Bessemer City, Butler, Cannon School, Cherryville, Community School of Davidson, Concord First Assembly, Concord Senior High, East Lincoln, Forest Hills, Garinger, Harding, Hickory Ridge, Highland School of Technology, Hopewell, Independence, Jay M. Robinson, Monroe, Mooresville, Myers Park, North Mecklenburg, North Stanly, NW Cabarrus, Pine Lake Prep, Porter Ridge, Providence Day School, South Mecklenburg, Southlake Christian, Vance, West Charlotte, West Montgomery. Obviously, there are a lot of other teams across the state that will be profiled, and my colleagues at FNF N.C. Magazine will appreciate your assistance as well. Feel free to email me if you would like to share convenient time to call and discuss, mdwillardmd@yahoo.com. Thank you for any help you can provide. Michael Willard FNF N.C. Magazine

  6. J.M. Robinson HS (3A) in Concord is looking for games for the following weeks for the 2017 and 2018 season. The Bulldogs went 8-5 in 2015 and advanced to the second round of the 3A playoffs. Week 1 Week 2 Week 4 Week 5 Week 7 Contact head football coach Joe Glass if interested in playing. Joseph.Glass@Cabarrus.k12.nc.us or on Twitter at Joe Glass.
  7. It looks as if Concord fans can all breathe a sigh of relief, by all accounts, it looks that head football coach Glen Padgett will return to the sidelines for the 2016 season. I along with everyone else had heard the rumors or speculation that Padgett would be moving on from coaching after the '15 season, but I'm excited to know he'll be back. Padgett is one of the best play-callers I've seen, he's always prepared and his teams always show up ready to play. This is definitely a win-win for the Spiders and their fans!
  8. I'm trying to get a comprehensive list of the South Piedmont Conference Champions from 1952-2015 and I am stuck on just a few. Can anyone tell me who ended up winning the South Piedmont Conference in the following years? Thanks for your assistance!! 1979 1986 1987 1988
  9. Northwest Cabarrus has hired Charlie Gray as their twelfth coach in school history, replacing Rich Williams who stepped down after eight seasons leading the Trojans. Gray was the head coach at Hopewell this past season, and prior to that has been a longtime assistant at Mallard Creek as well as Salisbury. Gray comes very well respected by his peers in the coaching fraternity and should do a great job at Northwest. He already lives very close to the high school so his transition should be seamless.
  10. This post is for people interested in the 3A SPC Mens Basketball race this year. There are numerous D1 recruits/signees in this league. The number #1 freshmen in the country Wendell Moore, #1 Soph in state Rechon Black, and #1 Junior Lavarr Batts. Players have moved back in from outside schools back to their respective original schools. Is it the toughest league in the state for 3A? Does Rowan county have any sleeper teams that can compete with the Cabarrus teams? There is talent on every team this year. Should be an exciting year in the 10 team SPC. Any thoughts on who is the the best team?
  11. With Rich Williams stepping down, the Northwest Cabarrus head coaching position is open. Northwest Cabarrus (technically located in Kannapolis) is a 3A school in the South Piedmont Conference. The Trojans have been up and down during most of their existence but has enjoyed some moderate success from time to time. The pros to this job is the school system, the community, and certainly the proximity to the Charlotte area. This area would be a great place to relocate to and raise a family. There have been some big-time players come though, but the school has never enjoyed the same athletes and support as local rivals A.L. Brown and Concord. The only cons to the job would be the tough league but this is a very good position that should attract some interest. I've already been contacted by some local assistants and a coordinator at a Cabarrus Co. school, as well as a current head coach in CMS. Either of those would be great in this job.
  12. (This is an old school South and East photo, but the only one I had) Friday night at South Rowan's James H. Donnell Stadium, the Raiders will have one last shot to put a W in the win column and head into the offseason and 2016 with some momentum. Obviously this season hasn't gone the way South or East Rowan would have liked, but nonetheless, I've seen some bright spots for both teams, especially for East Rowan who really has looked good at times. If only looking at the stats, one would easily give the win to East and the Mustangs very well may come out victorious, but knowing these two old rivals as I do, this is obviously one of those games you have to throw out the record books and just play it between the white lines. I don't think anyone would have predicted that South would have muscled by East 28-14 a year ago, especially as hot as Kenneth McClamrock's team had been, but like I said, anything can happen between these two old foes. I think there could just be enough Raider Pride left in the tank for Daniel Yow's Raiders to pick themselves up and find a bright spot headed into off-season lifting and spring workouts. THE SERIES South Rowan leads the series 33-17 1961: East Rowan 6-0 1962: South Rowan 13-0 1963: South Rowan 7-0 1964: South Rowan 21-0 1965: East Rowan 19-14 1966: South Rowan 14-13 1967: East Rowan 16-6 1968: East Rowan 27-14 1969: East Rowan 6-3 1970: South Rowan by forfeit (East won game 13-6) 1971: South Rowan 27-14 1972: South Rowan 3-0 1973: East Rowan 15-9 1974: East Rowan 25-7 1975: South Rowan 28-20 1976: South Rowan 22-6 1977: South Rowan 45-18 1978: South Rowan 21-14 1979: East Rowan 13-7 (OT) 1980: South Rowan 29-7 1981: South Rowan 43-0 1982: South Rowan 51-0 1983: South Rowan 29-0 1984: South Rowan 24-14 1985: East Rowan 7-0 1986: South Rowan 12-0 1987: South Rowan 25-0 1988: South Rowan 13-7 1993: South Rowan 26-0 1994: South Rowan 14-0 1995: South Rowan 41-7 1996: South Rowan 18-3 1997: East Rowan 31-0 1998: East Rowan 28-0 1999: East Rowan 28-7 2000: South Rowan 56-7 2001: South Rowan 34-6 2002: South Rowan 35-6 2003: South Rowan 50-8 2004: South Rowan 40-35 2005: South Rowan 20-7 2006: South Rowan 3-0 2007: East Rowan 43-29 2008: South Rowan 31-7 2009: South Rowan 27-20 2010: East Rowan 14-6 2011: East Rowan 21-0 2012: East Rowan 47-14 2013: East Rowan 61-21 2014: South Rowan 28-14
  13. JM Robinson travels to Concord in the 2015 regular season finale. The Spiders (8-0 SPC, 9-1 overall) have wrapped up at least a share of their third straight SPC title and the league's #1 playoff berth with their win over 51-0 NW Cabarrus. The Robinson Bulldogs have been on a roll however in the last six weeks, coming off a 66-16 win over South Rowan. Robinson (6-2 SPC, 7-3 overall) is likely the league #3 or #4 playoff team - depending on the West Rowan-Hickory Ridge outcome. The Bulldogs lost to both of those teams earlier this year. Game time at Robert C. Bailey Stadium is 7:30. There will be a special 100th anniversary commemoration at 5:30 prior to the game at Locke Mill Plaza parking lot (the location of Concord's first home field in 1915). Concord High School's first football game occurred on November 5, 1915.
  14. Is that a correct score that HR lost to Carson 24-6? I know they get reported incorrectly sometimes. If so, how did Carson hold HR to only 6 points. The few times I have watched them over the years I thought they were below average on defense but really good on offense.
  15. The leaves are changing, it's getting cooler, we're about to move the clocks back an hour, and the Wonders and Spiders are both (9-1) and (8-2) collectively. These things should signal the Bell Game being played this Friday right? But (DOH!! as Homer Simpson says!) I forgot, they played back in the steamy 90 degree weather in August. Still doesn't see right. Maybe Jim West will give us some good news with his mock NCHSAA Realignments for the 2017 realignment. Photo from Friday Nights in K-Town
  16. I heard the Central Cabarrus QB may be gone for the season. Did not play in CC's 21-14 loss to West Rowan. Does anyone know if he is out for season?

  18. Robinson Bulldogs blowed out Central Cabarrus tonight to bring their record to 2-0 in the SPC.Robinson was 0-11 last season playing in the 4A MECKA.So far they have enjoyed their return to 3A football with two blowout wins over SPC opponents.Undefeated Robinson will try to make it three in a row in the SPC when they travel to 0-2 Hickory Ridge next week.Great turn around coach Glass.
