  3. Heritage makes the trip to Reidsville a few rounds later than last year. Heritage played some great ball last night, Reidsville handled South Columbus. This is what everyone expected when the year began and now it's here!
  4. The final week of the regular season is upon us and not a lot changed last week. Heritage, Franklin and ACR all wrapped up conference titles leaving only the Smoky Mountain Conference to fight it out. Murphy is the only top 10 team to fall with a win. The Bulldogs bounced back after a tough loss to thump Rosman but still played sluggish defense. Cherokee won big and that set up a massive SMC game at Ray Kinsland Stadium this Friday. Franklin played Franklin football to beat a determined Pisgah and Smoky continued their surprising season with another win. ACR continues to cruise along and Asheville has proven that they could turn around a tough start and will be a very tough out in the playoffs. BOLD indicates conference champions (outright or shared) 1 Mountain Heritage, 9-0, 4-0 2 Franklin, 10-0, 4-0 3 A.C. Congrats to everyone for great years and lets get ready to start up season 2!
  6. Sorry for be so late but it's busy around Jackson County this time of year. Nothing much changed this week at the top. Murphy fell after losing to a motivated Swain team and Cherokee jumped into the four slot after beating Robbinsville. Erwin moves up to ninth and Tuscola re-enters the top 10. Smoky Mountain moves up as they continue their extremely confusing season. They score a bunch with no defense one week then play great defense and score less. They are hard to pick. West continues to fall and Owen picks up win number one this season after several close games. Let's hope the Warhorses are on the road to more wins as that only strengthens mountain football. 1 Mountain Heritage, 8-0, 3-0 2 Franklin, 9-0, 3-0 3 A.C. Reynolds, 8-1, 6-0 4 Cherokee, 9-0, 4-0 5 Mitchell, 8-1, 2-1 6 Hendersonville, 6-3, 2-1 7 Murphy, 7-2, 3-1 8 Asheville, 5-4, 5-1 9 Erwin, 4-4, 4-2 10 Tuscola, 6-3, 4-2 11 Swain 5-4, 4-1 12 Pisgah, 5-4, 1-2 13 Robbinsville, 6-3, 2-2 14 Brevard, 6-3, 1-2 15 TC Roberson, 3-6, 3-3 16 Polk, 6-3, 2-1 17 Smoky Mountain, 4-5, 1-2 18 West Henderson, 6-3, 4-2 19 East Henderson, 3-6, 1-2 20 Madison, 3-6, 1-2 21 Owen, 1-7, 1-2 22 Rosman, 2-7, 1-3 23 North Henderson, 2-7, 0-6 24 Hayesville, 2-7, 1-3 25 Enka, 2-8, 1-6 26 Avery, 2-7, 0-3 27 Andrews, 1-9, 0-5 28 North Buncombe, 1-9, 1-6
  7. Heritage holds on to the top spot in this week's rankings after a big win over rival neighbor, Mitchell. The Toe River War went to the Cougars for the third straight year. Franklin jumps the idle Rockets after going to Hendersonville and beating a very talented Bearcats team. Franklin gets Brevard this week and Pisgah the week after next to decide the Mountain 6 title. With four teams in the top 12 both the Mountain 6 and Western Mountain are solidly in the driver's seat as the top conferences in WNC. The Game of the Week is what could be the WMAC title game, AC Reynolds hosting Asheville. the Cougars are hot and will find out how good they are Friday at Dalton stadium. 1 Mountain Heritage, 6-0, 1-0 2 Franklin, 7-0, 1-0 3 A.C. Reynolds, 6-1, 4-0 4 Murphy, 6-1, 2-0 5 Cherokee, 7-0, 2-0 6 Asheville, 5-3, 5-0 7 Brevard, 6-1, 1-0 8 Mitchell, 6-1, 0-1 9 Hendersonville, 4-3, 0-1 10 West Henderson, 5-2, 3-1 11 Pisgah, 5-2, 1-0 12 Erwin, 3-4, 3-2 13 Robbinsville, 5-2, 2-1 14 Polk, 5-2, 1-0 15 Tuscola, 4-3, 2-2 16 Swain 3-4, 2-1 17 Smoky Mountain, 3-4, 0-1 18 North Henderson, 2-5, 0-4 19 Madison, 3-4, 1-0 20 TC Roberson, 1-6, 1-3 21 Rosman, 2-6, 1-2 22 East Henderson, 2-5, 0-1 21 Enka, 2-6, 1-4 22 Avery, 2-5, 0-1 23 Andrews, 1-7, 0-3 24 Owen, 0-6, 0-1 25 Hayesville, 1-6, 0-2 26 North Buncombe, 1-7, 1-4
  8. Heritage holds on to the top spot while taking a much needed break after Hendersonville. Reynolds closed the gap after thumping Tuscola. Franklin had a nice tune up before opening Mountain 6 play against preseason Favorite Hendersonville. Cherokee showed it can compete and Asheville continues to move up as they stay perfect in WMAC play. Smoky Mountain moved up but must play during a very tough three game stretch to secure a playoff berth. Polk, Swain and TCR all need to right the ship to have successful seasons. 1 Mountain Heritage, 5-0 2 A.C. Reynolds, 6-1, 4-0 3 Franklin, 6-0 4 Murphy, 6-1, 1-0 5 Cherokee, 6-0, 1-0 6 Mitchell, 6-0 7 Hendersonville, 4-2 8 Asheville, 4-3, 4-0 9 Brevard, 5-1 10 West Henderson, 4-2, 2-1 11 Pisgah, 4-2 12 Tuscola, 4-2, 2-1 13 North Henderson, 2-4, 0-3 13 Robbinsville, 4-2, 1-1 15 Erwin, 2-4, 2-2 16 Polk, 4-2 17 Smoky Mountain, 3-3 18 Swain 2-4, 1-1 19 East Henderson, 2-4 20 TC Roberson, 1-5, 1-2 21 Madison, 2-4 22 Rosman, 2-5, 1-1 21 Enka, 2-5, 1-3 22 Avery, 2-4 23 Andrews, 1-6, 0-2 24 Owen, 0-5 25 Hayesville, 1-5, 0-1 26 North Buncombe, 0-7, 0-4

  10. Heritage remains in the number one spot and faces the stiffest test of the season as the they travel to former WHC foe Hendersonville. AC Reynolds remains second while Franklin sits solidly in third. West Henderson and Brevard move up in the poll, both cracking the top 10 after impressive 4-1 starts. Asheville seems to be back, at least close to normal, and makes the biggest jump in the poll. 9 places to number 11. This week has several big match ups that will have an impact on the top 10. The aforementioned Heritage and Hendersonville, as well as Robbinsville at Murphy and Polk at Pisgah. 1 Mountain Heritage, 4-0 2 A.C. 11. I figure three weeks into the season we know enough about the teams in the area to make a reasonably educated poll. Please remember I said "reasonably"....LOL. I know this will ruffle some feathers but the best teams are not in the Western Mountains 3A. The WMAC (formerly MAC) has had a strangle hold on the best teams lately but this year only AC Reynolds is in the top ten. Another odd selection is TC Roberson at number 11 with no wins. Watauga is very good and so is Crest. Kings Mountain is undefeated and better than advertised. TCR is much better than their record. Franklin sits at number one based on dominating performances in week one and three and because they took control and beat a very good Murphy. The Panthers are a very solid team and stand a very good chance of being undefeated this regular season. Heritage and Murphy are tied at three and both have solid claims to alone at three. Mitchell is secure at number five while former WAC foe Hendersonville lurks at number six. Let the comments begin. 1 Franklin, 3-0 2 A.C. Reynolds, 2-1 3 Murphy, 2-1 3 Mountain Heritage, 2-0 5 Mitchell, 3-0 6 Hendersonville, 2-1 7 Cherokee, 2-0 8 Robbinsville, 2-0 9 Polk, 2-0 10 Pisgah, 2-1 11 TC Roberson, 0-3 12 West Henderson, 2-1 13 North Henderson, 2-1 13 Brevard, 2-1 15 Madison, 2-1 16 Swain 1-2 17 Tuscola, 1-1 18 Smoky Mountain, 2-1 19 Erwin, 0-2 20 Asheville, 0-3 21 Avery, 1-2 22 East Henderson, 1-2 21 Rosman, 0-3 22 Andrews, 1-2 23 Hayesville, 1-2 24 Enka, 1-2 25 North Buncombe, 0-3 26 Owen, 0-2
