  1. Bishop McGuinness has multiple vacancies available for the upcoming offseason and 2018 season. Offensive and Defensive Positions are available, with the possibility of coordinator for the right candidate. We are moving into year two of this coaching staff. We are located in the heart of the Triad. No Teaching Positions are available. If Interested contact HC Drew Hackett at dhackett@bmhs.us
  2. Congrats to Village Christian Academy and head coach Russell Stone for winning their first playoff game in school history on Friday night defeating Concord First Assembly 56-42. The Knights have a rematch this Friday against (10-1) Wake Christian. The victory is the 261st of Stone's career.
  3. Next week's game between Word of God Christian and Pinecrest may be the biggest mismatch since David versus Goliath. What happened to the Q Foundation (the Washington Generals of N.C. high school football)??? The Holy Rams seem to be ready for slaughter.
  4. North Davidson (4-0) at Charlotte Christian (4-0) may be one of the best games in the state this Friday. I've seen Christian a few times already this year and they are as good as any 3A team and most 4A teams in the state. I would say the first 22 players for Christian is as good as anyones, but they do lack some depth which could come into play against a very strong North Davidson squad. This game will feature two of the best head coaches, play callers, as well as two of the best QB's in NC. Christian is led by an amazing sophomore that I've seen a few times already in Garrett Shrader. He's your prototypical looking future D-1 player, he's 6'4, can move, and has great downfield awareness and quick feet. He's averaging around 250 yards passing a game and really put on a show when the Knights defeated Cuthbertson where he he completed 25 or 40 and threw for 305 yards. North's Joe Butts is as polished a QB as I've seen, the son of former ND head coach Bill Butts, he's got great feet, tremendous vision, and a smooth touch on the deep ball. He's averaging close to 300 yards per game. FOR THE RECORD: North Davidson (4-0) Head Coach: Mark Holcomb 13th season (111-46) 2016 Results: at High Point Central (4A) 55-21 W Ledord 31-7 W Asheboro 35-14 W at Lexington 48-13 W Charlotte Christian (4-0) Head Coach: Jason Estep 10th season (81-24) 2016 Results: Charlotte Catholic (4A) 20-13 W Carolina Pride 49-0 W Cuthbertson 49-19 W West Ashley SC (4A) 31-27

    Statesville Christian

I had a pleasure to be attending a Statesville Christian Practice, Here is what I observed at SCS! 1. SCS has 2 great QB battling but I believe Brennan Seattle will mostly likely be Starting QB with more experience under his belt. 2. Deshon Holmes and Another WR are right now the best 2 WRs at SCS. Deshon Holmes caught almost every pass and did it with excellent Form. The other WR gave it his all and he is all over the field caughting the ball! 3. It is still a bit early to tell how SCS will do but you can tell that Some people are Not in Football shape yet and Some Are 4. Statesville Christian is very small but Has a very good bond and a great coaching staff who are teaching great things. I really enjoy Coach Cox and Coach Natoli work Ethic and Everything they do! They are 2 class acts. Overall: I feel Statesville Christian will be fine if everything comes together, They have a pretty tough schedule this year with playing Pine Lake Prep, Davidson Day, Southlake Christian. SCS had some speed and they have some size. I enjoy my visit and observation. SCS is a Family and They always give God the glory! SCS starts there season at Home vs Christ King!
  6. Coaches, fans and forum followers, The work on Friday Night Football N.C. Magazine’s annual season preview edition continues. We publish the preview this summer - every high school will receive one and others may be purchased online and at various news stands. With a summer publication date, the pressure is on to complete team capsules and other stories very soon. I’m working on the “West,” “Midwest” and “Charlotte” regions and am lacking about 70 teams. I’ll keep making calls and sending emails directly to the schools, but any assistance you can provide by completing the online survey at www.fnfsurvey.com will be a great help. The teams I haven’t heard from or talked to follow. I know some of these are on the coach’s moving van, but any insight into the teams and returning athletes that can be provided by a coach or AD will help us produce a more complete preview. Midwest Alexander Central, Ashbrook, Bandys, Fred T. Foard, Hickory, Carson, Kings Mountain, Newton-Conover, North Iredell, North Rowan, North Wilkes, South Caldwell, South Iredell, Statesville, Watauga, West Iredell, West Wilkes. West Andrews, Asheville School, Cherokee, Christ School, Erwin, Enka, Hayesville, Hendersonville, Madison, McDowell, Murphy, North Henderson, Pisgah, Polk County, Robbinsville, Rosman, Smoky Mountain, Swain County, T.C. Roberson, Thomas Jefferson Academy, Tuscola, Victory Christian Center. Robinson, Monroe, Mooresville, Myers Park, North Mecklenburg, North Stanly, NW Cabarrus, Pine Lake Prep, Porter Ridge, Providence Day School, South Mecklenburg, Southlake Christian, Vance, West Charlotte, West Montgomery. Obviously, there are a lot of other teams across the state that will be profiled, and my colleagues at FNF N.C. Magazine will appreciate your assistance as well. Feel free to email me if you would like to share convenient time to call and discuss, mdwillardmd@yahoo.com. Thank you for any help you can provide. Michael Willard FNF N.C. Magazine

  8. I would make plans to drive to Monroe HS on Saturday afternoon for this game. These are two of the best programs in NC this year, and a game that is sure to be spectacular. Kickoff is at 4pm, this is the 3rd game of the 4-game set Union Power Cooperative Gridiron Clash being played at Monroe HS. This will be the highlight of Saturday's slate of games. I had a chance to see Charlotte Christian up close and personal last Saturday when they dismantled #1 ranked 3A team Myrtle Beach and this team is very well coached and hits about as hard on defense as any team I've seen. I think both programs mirror each other in class and coaching, and I think both teams will get after you physically. I think Christian is probably the favorite, but I still think the game will be very tight and go down to the line. Obviously Weddington has the athletes to get after it and win as well, which is what will make this game a must-see.
  9. The 55th Annual Cook Cup, what are the predictions based on the first two weeks?
  10. Charlotte Country Day has selected Drew Whitman, son of longtime coach Bob Whitman as the Buccaneers head football coach. Whitman previously was the defensive coordinator at Myers Park under Scott Chadwick. In an interesting twist, one of Whitman's early season match-ups will be against his former team, Myers Park, in the 3rd Annual Charlotte Preps TV Kickoff Night at Memorial Stadium.
  11. Grantley Mizelle will be the new head coach at South Creek High School. Not sure what status is on Coach Jones.
