  1. Hey guys based on the new Adms that came out this week, what schools in the western part of the state do you think will be moving up to 3A after the new realignment. I kind of thought it looked like hibriten North Lincoln and East Lincoln could be making their way to 3a
  2. The Winter meeting of the NCHSAA Board of Directors will be held Thursday morning at the Simon F. Terrell Building in Chapel Hill. This meeting has the makings of being a very interesting one, and could be our first opportunity to learn what direction the association will be headed down, in regards to realignment, and or reclassification. I will be on hand for the meeting and will bring you all the news from it.
  3. Here are the sites and locations for the 2019 NCHSAA Football State Championships played on Saturday, December 14th. 1A & 1AA Wallace-Wade Stadium at Duke University (Kickoffs at 3:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m.) 2A & 2AA BB&T Field at Wake Forest University (Kickoffs at 11:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m.) 3A & 3AA Carter-Finley Stadium at N.C. State University (Kickoffs at 3:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m.) 4A & 4AA Kenan Memorial Stadium at the University of North Carolina (Kickoffs at 11:0 a.m. and 3:00 p.m.)
  4. Having attended a recent Saint BBall game, I noticed that the cheerleaders no longer cheered during an opponents free-throw attemps....I inquired about why this was going on and was informed that about 3yrs ago the NCHSAA enacted a rule that cheerleaders go no longer cheer in a "negative" manner during games, which meant no cheering "miss it" during FT attempts. I remember sitting in the gym and the cheerleaders were the ones keeping the intensity up, and the crowd into the games, now its like a morgue during a lot of the games. Add this to the fact that there are 4 bazillion games in the FB playoffs and 2 bazillion state champions, I ask the question, when did the NCHSAA stop giving a $#!+, and how do we as fans/boosters change it? This is a grievances thread, so air all that you have.
  5. Who decides on four or five classifications as well as the splits? And, when does it kick in? 2021 or 2022???
  6. When is the nchsaa suppose to meet to decide on 5 or 4 classes and when do they start working on new conferences
  7. Report from HighSchool OT: Holly Springs forfeits football games, dropped from playoffs due to ineligible player
  8. We were assured that the S. Caldwell snafu would never occur again, it happens again. Not quite as bad but almost. #4 Hoggard (5-5), BYE I have a difficult time with a team with a 5-5 record getting a BYE when there are teams with much better records who are #10 and higher seeds. I don't care what the seeding process dictates. Just my biased opinion.
  9. https://carolinapreps.com/2019/11/09/road-to-the-championships-playoff-brackets-are-now-set/ The brackets are now set.
  10. At this moment it looks like there will be a three way tie in the SPC for 2nd place between Kannapolis,Central Cabarrus, and Cox Mill. How will they decide the 2nd place team in the conference if this tie does occur? Will they have a draw for the 2nd place team or will they let Max Preps decide who gets the number two spot in the SPC?
  11. Let’s name them: Wallace Rose Hill was beaten by East Duplin. Wallace now has 4 losses. East Lincoln put 63 points on West Lincoln. South Point Belmont loss to Chase. Pretty much guarantees a losing season for the Red Raiders. Undefeated West Stanley gets crushed by Anson County and doesn’t even score. West Stanley’s strength of schedule before the game was 83rd in 2A. Undefeated Oak Gove Beaten by 6-3 Thomasville. Parkland wins over Mt. Tabor who doesn’t even score. Salisbury beaten by 4 loss North Davidson. WBTV in Charlotte declares HM Hough vs Mallard Creek game of the week. Snooze fest as Mallard Creek wins by 39 with their own kids.
  12. Will ADMs be made public this week?
  13. The annual renewal of one of the mountains fiercest rivalry games. This game has been stellar for decades. Swain leads the series 38-35 overall but tonight is special. Murphy Head Coach David Gentry tries to set the all time wins record in NC. Beating Swain County would be a perfect end to this quest. Post your thoughts fellas.

  15. What was the reason for the adjusted rankings? What do they do to them to adjust them? What's wrong with the regular rankings? Why do they need to be adjusted? A couple teams were in that are not now once the rankings were "adjusted"

  17. With this week's release of the updated MaxPreps.com Adjusted Rankings, the same ones that the NCHSAA will use in November to seed the playoffs brackets, there has been a lot of chatter back and forth, both on this and other websites, and directed towards me personally, through a long list of text messages from the head coaches themselves, asking about whether they (the rankings) should even be in use. I have to agree, with some of the positions teams are ranked at throughout this latest release, there seems to be no rhyme or reason as to why some teams are ranked high, and why others are ranked low, and by low, some are very low in comparison to our rankings here at CP, and the Associated Press polls. My question is this; should the NCHSAA use a ranking system in the first place? Is it necessary? If so, are there any ways you would change it, and if not, what system would you put in its place for seeding the playoffs? One of the biggest complaints from coaches, is that there is no transparency with the formula. The NCHSAA maintains that it's a proprietary algorithm by MaxPreps, so therefore the equation or factors have never been clearly defined. We all assume that it takes into account strength of schedule, but from things I've been told, is that it may take into account your opponents strength of schedule more so. One thing we do know is that with the adjusted portion of the rankings, it is supposed to take out the margin of victory factor of the equation, so as not to encourage blowouts and unsportsmanlike play, for the sake of improving one teams standing. With all the chatter about it, it makes me wonder if going back to the old way may not be a better idea, and by old way, I mean the old, old way, that was used prior to 1997 when there were predetermined brackets. I think you could go to a hybrid of the predetermined brackets, with the #1 and #2 seeds from a conference filling out the majority of the bracket, then having the wild cards thrown in after the fact, and come up with a more concrete, and tangible tie-breaker method, even if it means going back to coin-tosses. Now I agree that there isn't a perfect solution, but I wanted to throw this out there as food for thought, and to get the fans perspective.
  18. I have posted the latest list I can find on my website. A lot of games on Monday. Several have been postponed to other weeks. Click on Week 3 predictions/scoreboard http://www.simmonsratings.com/hsfbpred.htm
  19. Please post any games moved due to Hurricane Dorian. South Creek at Riverside Martin has been moved to Wednesday at 7 p.m.
  20. Hope I seen this right. Monroe up 20-0 over Kings Mountain at the end of 1st. But Kings Mountain came back and won over Monroe 35-20. Anyone have any details for this game. Any more big comebacks from this past week games.
  21. with the hurricane coming is there any games moved up
  22. I am sorry for this, but I will not be having an update for this week. I work for the Carolina Mudcats baseball team during the summer, and we had our final homestand all this week. I have not been home to work on the ratings, and therefore won't have them done in time. It's a situation that "is what it is". Things should return to normal next week. Again, I apologize.
  23. Murphy Head Coach David Gentry has earned another distinguished honor in his long and storied career. Just 7 wins away from becoming the all-time winningist coach in NC history, Gentry was enshrined in the National High School Athletic Coaches Hall of Fame. https://www.citizen-times.com/story/sports/high-school/hshuddle/2019/06/26/murphys-david-gentry-inducted-into-national-hall-fame/1569166001/?fbclid=IwAR2cbNBUUdRKtMn2cUKDDIDdAozj22KSM26e9two9VYa7MGAmb7P4IBEEx8
  24. How is Trey Robinson not on the NC Shrine Bowl roster? I understand he may not have the QB stats to make it as a QB but as a RB or Athlete, or DB/LB? its insane to have a kid of this caliber who leads WNC in career rushing, career TD and single season TD scored not on a roster with the state's best. This has to be a inadvertent oversight and not a purposeful omission on the part of the NC coaching staff. And this is a call to correct that oversight. Trey Robinson has been a force for Mountain Heritage football now for 4 years. With him as their starting QB, Mountain Heritage has went 41-12 over the past 4 years, and excluding the freshman campaign of 6-6 they are 35-6. The following accomplishments are indicative not only of Trey but of all his team-mates and their countless hours of hard work and dedication to Mountain Heritage football. Those kids deserve the right to have their efforts represented by Trey in this game. Trey Robinson: 2017 Attempts: 344 Yards: 3146 (1st in the State 4th in the Nation) YPC; 9.1 YPG; 224.7 Rushing TD: 45 (9th All time in NC) 12th in the Nation Points scored: 316 avg of 22.6 a game 1st in the State (5th in the Nation) Career-wise: Trey is the only player in NC history to rush for 8000 and pass for 4000 Broke Johnny Frasier's record of 50 points scored in a game with 52 vs Whiteville Career Attempts: 1117-3rd All time in NC Yards: 8552 -6th All time in NC Rushing TD: 109 -5th All time in NC behind McClendon, Parks, Hood and Henry Total Yardage: 12,933 3rd All time in NC behind Leak and Surratt Points Scored: 765 3rd All time in NC behind McClendon and Parks Touchdown Responsibility: 170 4th All time behind Surratt, Leak and McClendon -Passing-wise Trey was 42-91 for 851 yards 13 TD and 4 INT -Career Passing 231-485 4381 yards 61 TD 29 INT -Rushed for 100 or more yards in every game, 200 or more 8 times and 300 or more twice in 2017 for his career: 100 or more yards 43 times, 200 or more 10 times. 3rd all time in NC with 43 100 yard games behind Parks and Henry -Defensively Trey saw action in 16 quarters on the year (mostly in the playoffs and sparingly through-out the regular season) and recorded 60 tackles, 2.0 TFL, 4 INT and 10 pass break ups from the free safety position.
