  1. Anyone else find it funny that Charlotte Catholic has two losses when playing similar competition in other private schools? A private school with no-boundaries should not be allowed to play with public schools. Private Schools playing in public school leagues have almost killed prep football in Pennsylvania. Lots of studies have shown that private schools routinely out perform public schools in just about every measurable sport except boys basketball and even then its close. Private schools have distinct advantages in no boundaries, funding of athletics/school, and being able to be selective in the athletes it accepts to the team. Most private Parochial schools have a built in feeder middle school that only feeds on private highschool and they can weed out low academic performers. Bottomline these type of parochial private schools should not be playing in public school playoffs.
  2. BIG Game here as Playoff hopes are in the balance. Hopewell is 3-7 (1-5): For Hopewell: Idk if they make Playoffs with a WIN but Hopewell has shown improvement this year and have a TON of talent this year. Hopewell has some good size, has some good speed and QB but They have to EXECUTE the play as I think thats been a issue. Hopewell had some good play vs Mooresville but had some big Drops as well but They played hard in a 28-8 lost. Hopewell has execute the play and get the drives going if that want to win here. Sustain drives is KEY! West Charlotte: 4-6 (1-5): This is a BIG Game for WC - If they win There more than likely in Playoffs and If they lose they prob. aren't in playoffs. West Charlotte is probably the best 4-6 team in NC. West Charlotte has a great staff but again they lack in some areas. Keys for WC to win is Give your QB enough time to pass the ball to Playmarkers. WC has some good players both sides and I think they have limit mistakes, penalties, turnovers to win here on the road. This one is a TOSS up for me but Ill go with: WC 26 Hopewell 21 Thoughts/Opinions?
  3. Myers Park will be tested mentally in this game at The Big I since this is the crossover to postseason. I expect them to beat Independence after that spectacular game vs Porter Ridge but why was Drake Maye still playing after the 3rd quarter ended. Ok they wanted to let him get one more score but MP has to start playing more disciplined football gambling with Drake near the end of season. And towards the end of the game they were so determined to get that last TD instead of running the clock out probably to make a statement to Mallard Creek. Just play humble and dont get into this routine of making silly decisions especially around the playoffs.
  4. Congrats to the Charlotte Catholic women's tennis team and field hockey teams for winning state titles on Saturday. Women's tennis completed a three-peat winning over New Hanover 5-1, the one loss was the only match the Cougars lost all playoffs. Was their second straight undefeated season. Congrats to field hockey who beat Myers Park 1-0 at App State, was the third time the two faced off and Catholic finally got it done. That makes I think 77 state championships now won by the Cougars in various sports. Proud to coach at a school where excellence is not a one sport thing
  5. We've got a big I-Meck game on tap for this Friday between Hough and Mallard Creek. Hough has seemed to be down and has somewhat flown under the radar, but they are playing some decent football now and their three losses were to Myers Park, Byrnes, and Butler. Mallard Creek continues to churn out good performances and is ranked atop the CP Power Rankings as the best team in the 4A class. What are your thoughts on this game?
  6. This week Big Blue makes the trip down into lion territory. West Charlotte is one of my favorite places to catch a game. Like the facilities they’ve got there. Not really sure what the landscape of small 4A is when it comes to playoffs... I feel like after last Friday it’s going to be shaken up a good bit... but I feel like this is a pretty important game for both. A win here may give us a decent chance at a home playoff game. I don’t know a ton about the lions this season.. but I do know they are an extremely well coached team. I think Coach Harris has done a phenomenal job with that lions program. They execute so well, especially that defense. Going to be a good test, I’m just hoping we come out on top! Go Big Blue!
  7. If you haven't been watching the Talking Preps shows each week over at the Charlotte Observer featuring Langston Wertz, Sam Greiner, Dale Ross of CarolinaVarsity.com, and myself, then you should go check it out. We covered a lot of topics this week. https://www.charlotteobserver.com/sports/high-school/article236805028.html
  8. Not meaning to start a flame war, just wondering why Charlotte Catholic plays in the public school division instead of the private school classification? Would they dominate the private schools if they played them? I'm not very familiar with the private schools and most of what I've learned has come from this forum. Catholic just seems like an entirely different beast compared to the others, or is that just an inaccurate perception on my part?
  9. I don't know how many people here have inside knowledge but I am curious to know what happened here. The JV dressed 35-37 kids Thursday night and looked very solid on both sides of the ball. The varsity had about 25 kids. The Max Preps roster lists only 8 seniors and I didn't see 2 or 3 of them anywhere either playing or on sideline including Stewart the South Carolina commit. This was a 9 win team 2 years ago and I watched their JV back then and they really looked to me like a team that was gonna be right there with the rest of the 3 schools in the Northern Suburbs. Have they lost a ton of kids to another school? Injury? Where did all these kids go?
  10. Butler is probably the best 5-3 team in NC, and despite the fact that Hickory Ridge lost 52-14 to Myers Park on Friday, they are very strong as well. Both of these squads are physical and well coached, but I may have to give Butler a small edge based on their defense. I think the winner of this game has the inside track on finishing 2nd in the SW4A.
  11. So I heard it 3 weeks ago from a media personality and I sort of laughed. Heard it again last night from Mr. Hughes. What criteria are we using and I am looking for more than how tall he is and stats against JV teams. Thoughts?
  12. Wow 7-1 this year. Losing only to Weddington thus far and reeled off seven wins in a row with a new head coach. Did anyone see this coming?
  13. Charlotte Catholic can't overlook this Parkwood team, the Rebels are very good, and also are very BIG up front. Is this business as usual for the Cougars, or does Parkwood knock them off?
  14. A new high school football all-star game will kick off in Charlotte this year. https://amp.charlotteobserver.com/sports/high-school/article235253322.html?__twitter_impression=true&fbclid=IwAR1z4NEo6L3TI0HmdVWgAuXKB3aaXy_eDDFs-6I2hKgDk-HVgH-Q2muH9d4 How will this game effect the Shrine Bowl?
  15. 4-4 West Charlotte at 5-3 Hough. Looks like an interesting game. Any thoughts.

  17. I seen on one of the Charlotte Observers videos with Chris Hughes, Dale Ross, Langston and Coach Sam Greiner and They were talking about How Harding hasn't got any upgrades and all and Someone mention Using Waddell as a Community Football Venue kinda like they do at Memorial Stadium So well lets debate on that? Could Charlotte use Waddell as a Alternative Venue for Playoffs Games and Big games during the season? Waddell is a Big stadium and also It use to be a HS at one point in time. I doubt Waddell returns to their own HS but I think this could work as Many dont like going to Memorial Stadium. What are your thoughts? Also Another Idea is Build One big stadium and Berry/Harding both use it because Harding n Berry is like 1.2 miles apart. Even Chris said: " When He was in TX coaching , they had a Community Stadium they used and shared with other HS"
  18. West Charlotte is a big underdog but who are their star players? What do they do well to be 4-2?
  19. I will be traveling to Charlotte this weekend, can anybody give me a good game to go watch Friday. Just looking for thoughts and ideas from people more familiar to the area, any will help thanks.

    Rankings

https://www.charlotteobserver.com/sports/high-school/article234944902.html Nothing against the school but I just find it odd that Knightdale received a top 10 Vote and they haven’t played a quality team yet with a winning record. Knightdales opponents combined record this season is 1-8. And I’m sure there are a few other teams u guys may notice out of place or not present at all on this list of top 10s
  21. Does anyone know if they are any good?
  22. I knew Delano Little retired at the end of 2018, but I didn't realize that his retirement also meant the Football Friday Night program would also be retired. Nothing else in the area compared when it came to keeping up with local results (and they definitely stretched the boundaries on what was local). I've found myself having to get a new routine for Saturday mornings when I drank coffee and watched this on my DVR. I'm guessing the costs of sending 20 cameras around to various games was the undoing.

    Huss at Vance

Interesting match. Don't know if Huss QB has returned from an injury. I would Vance will take this one by 21. Any thoughts or predictions.
  24. It has been very one sided since 2012. Butler only winning twice since then. It was MC's first game of the year last year. They jumped out to a big lead and then Butler got back in and made a game of it. Creek ending up winning it by 10. Lot of chatter about the MC-DF game with almost no attention on the fact that Butler beat a pretty solid Hough team in the opener. There used to be a ton of Butler guys on these forums.....most have gone away ( some for a long time). Does Butler have the juice to surprise MC? Butler has never won at MC>>>>
