  2. Today marks the 'official' start of a new season of High School Football Parents of Seniors today marks a bittersweet day as this may be the last season we watch our kids play the game that they love! Parents of Freshman today marks the beginning of a 4 year journey of up and downs! Remember that regardless of school pride, pride of your children it is a team sport and a game that we all enjoy. It is still about the kids that play! Look around you while you are in the stands and absorb the atmosphere, the smell of popcorn, the excitement and of course the disappointments. The parents, grandparents and relatives of the kids playing, the student sections soak it all in Thank the coaches for what they do they do for the kids. They instill pride, values, work ethics and life lessons into our children The refs may not always 'get it right' but they do the best that they can as we all make mistakes in life Most of all let your kids know how much we Love them regardless of whether they score that game winning touchdown, make the block that frees up the runner for the game winner or fumble the ball or miss that block that results in a loss. May we all have safe and successful seasons Remember above all else this is about the kids! Remind them of how proud we are of them!

  11. How is Trey Robinson not on the NC Shrine Bowl roster? I understand he may not have the QB stats to make it as a QB but as a RB or Athlete, or DB/LB? its insane to have a kid of this caliber who leads WNC in career rushing, career TD and single season TD scored not on a roster with the state's best. This has to be a inadvertent oversight and not a purposeful omission on the part of the NC coaching staff. And this is a call to correct that oversight. Trey Robinson has been a force for Mountain Heritage football now for 4 years. With him as their starting QB, Mountain Heritage has went 41-12 over the past 4 years, and excluding the freshman campaign of 6-6 they are 35-6. The following accomplishments are indicative not only of Trey but of all his team-mates and their countless hours of hard work and dedication to Mountain Heritage football. Those kids deserve the right to have their efforts represented by Trey in this game. Trey Robinson: 2017 Attempts: 344 Yards: 3146 (1st in the State 4th in the Nation) YPC; 9.1 YPG; 224.7 Rushing TD: 45 (9th All time in NC) 12th in the Nation Points scored: 316 avg of 22.6 a game 1st in the State (5th in the Nation) Career-wise: Trey is the only player in NC history to rush for 8000 and pass for 4000 Broke Johnny Frasier's record of 50 points scored in a game with 52 vs Whiteville Career Attempts: 1117-3rd All time in NC Yards: 8552 -6th All time in NC Rushing TD: 109 -5th All time in NC behind McClendon, Parks, Hood and Henry Total Yardage: 12,933 3rd All time in NC behind Leak and Surratt Points Scored: 765 3rd All time in NC behind McClendon and Parks Touchdown Responsibility: 170 4th All time behind Surratt, Leak and McClendon -Passing-wise Trey was 42-91 for 851 yards 13 TD and 4 INT -Career Passing 231-485 4381 yards 61 TD 29 INT -Rushed for 100 or more yards in every game, 200 or more 8 times and 300 or more twice in 2017 for his career: 100 or more yards 43 times, 200 or more 10 times. 3rd all time in NC with 43 100 yard games behind Parks and Henry -Defensively Trey saw action in 16 quarters on the year (mostly in the playoffs and sparingly through-out the regular season) and recorded 60 tackles, 2.0 TFL, 4 INT and 10 pass break ups from the free safety position.

  13. After Rd. 1 The NW Foothills 2A- 3 Teams Hibriten Patton Foard of course we will lose at least one team in Rd 2. (HHS vs Patton) Lets hear them all for all classes!
  14. Beyond hope

    Good Luck

Good Luck to all the teams playing tonight. May all of the players, win or loose, come out of tonight injury free.
  15. Can you believe it is already the final week of the regular season? Some big match-ups this week that will effect playoff seeding and if teams will be in or out. Freedom @ McDowell- Who would have thought this game would be so important for both teams a few weeks ago? Freedom is in a tailspin, getting whacked by Watauga after a surprising upset loss to West Caldwell. McDowell has had a tough season but is still playing hard and is riding high after upsetting West Caldwell. If McDowell wins and South Caldwell loses to Alexander Central, the Titans will be the unlikely NW4A champion. Whether they deserve a home playoff game is another debate but this game may be a close one. Freedom has more speed and size and should pull out a close victory over hard fighting McDowell. The key to this game is if McDowell can open up the passing game vs the pats. The titans have passed for over 200 yards in 2 of the past 3 games. Freedom 34 McDowell 21 West Caldwell @ Watauga- Watauga really seems to be hitting their stride the past few weeks after blowing out McDowell and Freedom. West Caldwell is a bit of an enigma, beating Freedom but losing to McDowell. One thing West Caldwell has done well most of the season is score (minus the McDowell game) Watauga may have the best defense in the conference and should be a solid 14-20 point favorite at home looking to improve their playoff seed. Watauga 41 West Caldwell 14 Hickory @ St Stephens- Can Saint sneak into the playoffs? A win here would put them at 5-6 and 4-3 in the conference with at least a tie with Hickory, Freedom and West Caldwell for 2nd. Hickory shocked Alexander Central last week but has shown a lack of discipline and focus after big wins on and off the field. Stephens will be riding high after demolishing South Caldwell and I think they pull the upset here. St Stephens 35 Hickory 33 Alexander Central @ South Caldwell- Alexander Central is still 1 win away from a conference title despite last weeks loss vs Hickory. South Caldwell needs to win or hope McDowell loses to Freedom to lock up the 4A side of the Northwestern. I suspect Alexander Central will be looking to play better this week and will have little trouble with the Spartans. Alexander Central 38 South Caldwell 13

    Central Academy Forfeits

Central Academy has forfeit the game to East Montgomery due to lack of played to injury so EM is now 9-2! Sad for players at Central but it is right call http://www.charlotteobserver.com/sports/high-school/article182072641.html#navlink=SecListx
  17. THURSDAY, NOV. 2 Hendersonville at East Henderson*, 7 p.m.: Hendersonville 49-14 FRIDAY, NOV. 3 Freedom at McDowell*: Freedom 35-10 North Henderson at Enka*: Enka 12-11 Tuscola at Erwin* Erwin 28-27 Reynolds at Roberson*: ACR 35-24 Asheville at West Henderson*: Asheville 28-24 Brevard at Pisgah*: Pisgah 21-20 Franklin at Smoky Mountain*: Franklin 34-17 Mountain Heritage at Avery County*: Heritage 56-7 Mitchell at Owen*: Mitchell 49-18 Madison at Polk County*: Polk 40-14 Murphy at Cherokee*: Murphy 28-27 Andrews at Robbinsville*: Robbinsville 30-14 Hayesville at Rosman*: Rosman 28-10 Carolina Gladiators at Swain County: Swain 42-20
  18. McDowell @ Alexander Central- Hapless McDowell will have their hands full with an AC team that is solid on both sides of the ball and can run and pass it well. This one will be over by halftime Alexander Central 48 McDowell 13 Freedom @ South Caldwell- Freedom will look to take their frustrations from a tough loss to AC out vs South Caldwell. South whipped McDowell and has been improving as the season progresses. This one may stay close for a while but Freedoms superior speed and athleticism will win out Freedom 34 South Caldwell 14 West Caldwell @ Hickory- Hickory has found tougher going against the top teams of the NW4a and will look to get back on track vs defensively challenged West Caldwell. West can score and this game wil likely be close but I think Hickorys speed will be too much for the poor West defense. Hickory 42 West Caldwell 27 Watauga @ St, Stephens- Watauga had a nice bounce back shootout win over Hickory last week and will likely continue their success vs Stephens. Watauga should score early and often and breeze to a nice win. Watauga 41 Stephens 14
  19. Week 3 features 2 great games and 2 with the bottom half of the conference.. South Caldwell @ McDowell- The battle for the bottom takes place this week in Marion. Both teams are desperate for wins considering they are there only 4A teams in the conference and could (if they don’t forfeit) be awarded a home playoff game if they win this one game! (stupid rule) I think South Caldwell will pick up their first win of the season, they seem to be slowly improving. McDowell can’t get out of their own way. South Caldwell 21 McDowell 14 Hickory @ Watauga- This could be a shootout. Watauga played AC tough and nail and will be looking to rebound at home vs a talented Hickory squad that is dealing with a lot of injuries. The red tornadoes and score against anyone but have had troubles with penalties and mental mistakes. It is very tough to win at Watauga; I like them in a close one. Watauga 34 Hickory 27 Alexander Central @ Freedom- Game of the week in the conference features 2 teams that are undefeated in conference and hoping to make a run in the state playoffs. Freedom squeaked by Hickory and will look to continue to use their talented young weapons on offense vs a maligned AC defense. Freedom struggled some defensively with Hickory and AC should have some success through the air especially. Home field means a lot in games like this, Patriots by 7. Freedom 42 AC 35 St. Stephens @ West Caldwell- Another toss up game in my opinion. St. Stephens has a nice balanced running and passing game and will put some points up on a struggling West Caldwell defense that has allowed over 50 points multiple times this season. West Caldwell luckily has enough athletes to outscore some teams such as South Caldwell last week. They will outscore St. Stephens as well. West Caldwell 42 St Stephens 34
  20. Many question marks starting out this year, as Coach G departed to Asheboro and with some leaders graduating from our back to back state title runners-up teams from last year and the year before. With the program back in good shape, its been interesting to see how the new head coach and young leaders on offense would respond. Close games against Davie (20-14 OT), Dudley (14-19), E Guilford (19-16), and E Forsyth (20-19), showed us that it takes a team some time to gel and learn a new offense especially with a sophomore QB leading the way. But, they have shown the willingness to play every single down with intensity and never give up. Page went 3-1 in these games. Reagan and East Forsyth had the marbles to schedule homecoming against Page this year. That didn't turn out to be a good idea for them. Page spoils the night twice in Forsyth co. In their last contest, Page won 20-19 after being down 16, the Pirates came back and beat E Forsyth in a field goal thriller (both teams kicked go-ahead field goals w/ under 2 mins to play). Last week, Page had a Bye week, they've been getting ready for Northwest Guilford and the start of conference play. They go into NWG looking to defend the Metro 4A crown. With big games coming against improved Ragsdale with RB Maness and High Point Central. Grimsley plays @Page this year for the 2nd time in all of history... rest assured that no one at Page is taking the Whirlies lightly... Go Pirates!
  21. THURSDAY, OCT. 12 West Henderson at North Henderson*, 7 p.m. (WMYA-TV): West 38-21 FRIDAY, OCT. 13 McDowell at Alexander Central*: Alexander Central 28-8 Roberson at Enka*: TCR 38-13 Asheville at Reynolds*: ACR 31-21 North Buncombe at Tuscola*: Tuscola 35-10 Pisgah at East Henderson*: Pisgah 33-21 Brevard at Franklin*: Franklin 30-14 Hendersonville at Smoky Mountain*: Hendersonville 41-12 Polk County at Avery County*: Polk 24-14 Madison at Mitchell*: Mitchell 42-20 Owen at Mountain Heritage*Heritage 54-7 Cherokee at Andrews*: Cherokee 38-7 Hayesville at Murphy*: Murphy 42-14 Swain County at Rosman*: Swain 28-24 Robbinsville vs. Hickory Hawks at Lenoir-Rhyne: Robbinsville 42-14
  22. The first week of conference play is in the books and this week there should be matchups that are a lot closer... McDowell @ St Stephens- Both teams are coming off of lopsided losses in the first week of conference play. McDowell hung tough with Hickory for a half and Stephens was shut out by Freedom. This is an important game for both teams as they know that wins will be hard to come by in the conference. This should be a very close game that could go either way. McDowell 28 St. Stephens 27 West Caldwell @ South Caldwell- This conference matchup is also a county rivalry game. South Caldwell is desperate for their first win of the season and may be able to hang around vs West. West Caldwell is having lots of trouble stopping other teams and South Caldwell hasn’t been able to score many points. Something has got to give this week. I like West Caldwell by 2 scores West Caldwell 28 South Caldwell 14 Freedom @ Hickory- This is my game of the week in the conference despite AC and Watugas undefeated records. Freedom has been very solid on both sides of the ball under new coack JBB and looks to continue the positive momentum vs a very fast and athletic Hickory squad. The red tornadoes are much improved but will have trouble in this one. Freedom 34 Hickory 21 Watauga @ Alexander Central- The pioneers and cougars are both 5-0 and hoping to bring home the conference title, this game will go a long way in determining which team will be at the top of the standings at years’ end. Watauga hasn’t been tested since a week 1 game vs TC Roberson and will look to outscore AC. Central is playing somewhat better defense this season despite allowing 35 vs West Caldwell last week. The cougars have a nice passing game and should be able to put up points this week, unfortunately Watauga will put up a few more in a close game. Watauga 41 Alexander Central 35
  23. Conference play starts this week! We will find out more about the teams and how the race for the NW4A/3A will shape up Hickory @ McDowell- McDowell opens up at home in their new conference vs an improving Hickory team. McDowell must win the turnover battle and control time of possession to have a chance in this one. Hickory has a lot of team speed and will look to utilize it against the overmatched Titans. Hickory 35 McDowell 14 South Caldwell @ Watauga- This conference matchup may be another mismatch. South Caldwell fought well against RS Central but play a tougher team this week in high powered Watauga. Watauga will score early and often and this one will likely be over by halftime. Watauga 41 South Caldwell 14 St. Stephens @ Freedom- Freedom has been very impressive so far this season and looks to extend that into conference play. The patriots start with St. Stephens who are coming off a disappointing blowout loss to Foard. Stephens has been able to put up points this season but have struggled defensively. Freedom will make them pay. Freedom 49 Stephens 14 Alexander Central @ West Caldwell- This game could turn out to be one of the more competitive games of the week (not saying much) Alexander Central has been a little inconsistent thus far despite their undefeated record. West Caldwell has struggled against the better teams but still could make this into a close game at home. I like Central but closer than many may think.. Alexander Central 34 West Caldwell 27
  24. FRIDAY, SEPT. 22 Hickory at McDowell*: Hickory 38-14 Enka at Asheville*: Asheville 35-10 Erwin at North Buncombe*: Erwin 31-13 North Henderson at Reynolds*: ACR 35-10 Roberson at West Henderson*: West 21-17 Smoky Mountain at Tuscola: Tuscola 34-21 Brevard at Chase: Brevard 24-14 Madison at East Henderson: Madison 31-24 Mountain Heritage at Hendersonville: Heritage 38-34 Franklin at Owen: Franklin 35-10 Polk County at Pisgah: Polk 31-28 Mitchell at R-S Central: Mitchell 28-12 Rosman at Andrews*: Rosman 31-21 Swain County at Hayesville*: Swain 42-10 Robbinsville at Murphy*: Murphy 35-10 Carolina Gladiators at Cherokee: Cherokee 38-7
