Carolina Preps Top 20 Power Rankings following Week 10

There wasn’t a lot of action among the teams that were ranked in last week’s CP Top-20 Power Rankings, but the games that did take place between ranked teams were very telling in who may be true state championship contenders in the coming weeks.

Starting in the 1A ranks, North Stanly made a statement in improving to (7-2) after demolishing previously 5th ranked North Rowan by a score of 43-8, and they did it on the road in Spencer which is always a hostile place to play and a tough environment to come away with a win.

Staying in the 1A class, Murphy, while dropping to 4th, primarily due to North Stanly’s dominant performance, put on a show winning 49-7 against rival Swain County and in the process earned head coach David Gentry his 400th career win.

A few teams are surging up the latter in the 1A to include Granville Central, Princeton, and Rosewood and remaining high in our rankings is Northampton County and Riverside Martin, although the other statewide polls seem to be a bit down on the (8-1) Northampton Jaguars.

There wasn’t a lot of change in the 2A class this week but look out for Wallace-Rose Hill to start making their way up the rankings, they had their hands full with a very solid Goldsboro team but pulled away with a 60-34 victory.

The biggest shocker of the night in the 2A ranks was Wheatmore smashing previously undefeated and 13th ranked Eastern Randolph 39-0.  Wheatmore squeaked their way into the rankings this week at 20th.

Also making their first appearance in the 2A rankings this season is West Stokes who routed Surry Central 61-6.

The two teams making the biggest waves this week in the 3A were Cleveland who defeated 19th ranked Clayton 35-21, and Northwest Cabarrus jumps a few spots after a 58-27 victory over A.L. Brown.

The biggest loser in the 4A ranks was South View who falls seven spots to 14th after falling to Terry Sanford 49-41. North Mecklenburg also falls from the rankings, but not very far after losing respectably to 6th ranked Hough.

Jumping back into the rankings for the first time this season is Pinecrest who defeated Scotland 34-12.
