CP Player Spotlight: Week 9

Lets take you around the state and introduce you to some of the players making plays on the prep gridiron.

 

Jalen Marshall  |  Anson County

Jalen Marshall  | Junior (2020) | 5-foot-7, 170 lbs | WR / Slot

Q: What are your personal goals for this football season?

A: My personal goals are to achieve all the team goals and to get noticed by a lot of colleges. 

 

Q: What coach has had the most impact on you as an athletic and what have you learned from him/her?

A:  Coach Ralph Jackson has had a big impact on my life throughout my years of playing football, I’ve learned that no matter what the situation is, just overcome it and keep striving for greatness.

 

Q:  Who is your favorite professional football player?

A: My favorite football player is Tyreek Hill, he shows that just because he’s smaller than everyone else, he can get the job done. That really inspires me.

 

Q: What is your favorite local restaurant/food?

A: Bojangles 

 

Q: What are your goals after high school?

A: My goals after high school is to either continue my football career or to pursue a degree from college as a regular student, but I hope I can continue my football career.

 

Q: What’s your favorite sports memory?

A: My favorite sports memory was seeing my team overcome adversity and work together.

 

Q: What word best describes your playing style?

A:  In my opinion I would describe my playing style as “Special”,  because for my size I get overlooked, but my skills make up for my height.

Q: What are your personal goals for this football season? 

A: Be the leader of the team by example. 

 

Q: What coach has had the most impact on you as an athletic and what have you learned from him/her? 

A: Coach Ashley Davis and I learned that you have to be a willing worker and learner to achieve your goals.

 

Q:  Who is your favorite professional football player? 

A: Aaron Rodgers

 

Q: What is your favorite local restaurant/food?

A: Bojangles

 

Q: What are your goals after high school?

A: Play sports at the collegiate level. 

 

Q: What’s your favorite sports memory? 

A: Playing in the 4th round of the playoffs in basketball against Eastern Guilford. 

 

Q: What word best describes your playing style? 

A: Shifty 

 

Lamont Murray  |  Pamlico 

Lamont Murray | Senior (2019) | 5-foot-9, 160 lbs. | QB

Q: What are your personal goals for this football season?

A: My goals for this season are to get better as a leader and help lead my football team to a State Championship.

 

Q: What coach has had the most impact on you as an athletic and what have you learned from him/her?

A: Coach Torrey Nowell has impacted me the most as a coach. He has taught me that if you want something you have to work hard for it to achieve it.

 

Q:  Who is your favorite professional football player?

A: Richard Sherman

 

Q: What is your favorite local restaurant/food?

A: Aggies is the local restaurant here in Pamlico County and I love to eat there. My favorite thing to order is a bacon double cheeseburger, fries,  and a sweet tea.

 

Q: What are your goals after high school?

A:  My goals after high school are to go to college, play football, and major in engineering.

 

Q: What’s your favorite sports memory?

A:  My favorite sports memory happened last season in the state championship game for basketball.  I hit a half court shot right before halftime to help add to our lead.

 

Q: What word best describes your playing style?

A: Explosive

 

Jayden Birchfield  |  Freedom

Jayden Birchfield | Junior (2020) | 6-foot-2, 205 lbs. | QB

Q: What are your personal goals for this football season?

A: One goal that I will always have is to win the State Championship,  but personally, my goal is to beat BJ Emmons’ touchdown record at Freedom High School.

 

Q: What coach has had the most impact on you as an athletic and what have you learned from him/her?

A: I’ve had three different football coaches in 3 years, so the coach who has probably inspired me the most  is my basketball coach, Coach Casey Rodgers.  He has taught me to never stop and that the people you’re in the locker with you are family.

 

Q:  Who is your favorite professional football player?

A:  Patrick Mahomes II

 

Q: What is your favorite local restaurant/food?

A: Cookout or Buffalo Wild Wings

 

Q: What are your goals after high school?

A:  My goal after high school is to earn a football scholarship to a four year university and earn my degree in either Sports-Medicine or Business.

 

Q: What’s your favorite sports memory?

A: My best sports memory would have to be getting invited to be in the Elite 11 at the end of my sophomore year.

 

Q: What word best describes your playing style?

A: I am play maker and a leader. I push everyone around me to be better. 

 

DeAndre Dingle-Prince  |  Lee County

DeAndre Dingle-Prince | Junior (2020) | 6-foot-2, 230 lbs. | DL/OL

Q: What are your personal goals for this football season?

A:  My personal goals for this season is to progress as a defensive stopper. Another goal of mine would be to hold that state championship trophy up in December.

 

Q: What coach has had the most impact on you as an athletic and what have you learned from him/her?

A: The Coach that had the most impact on me as an athlete would have to be one of my AAU coaches, Coach Steve.  Coach Steve believed in me and made me work hard to not be an average player.

 

Q:  Who is your favorite professional football player?

A: Khalil Mack

 

Q: What is your favorite local restaurant/food?

A: Goodfellas

 

Q: What are your goals after high school?

A: My goals after high school are to go to college and become an Athletic Trainer. I would love to play football at the college level as well.

 

Q: What’s your favorite sports memory?

A: My favorite sports memory would have to be he time I scored 56 points in a AAU basketball game.

 

Q: What word best describes your playing style?

A: The word that best describes my playing style is aggressive. I feel that I go hard every play, no matter who steps in front of me.

 

 

Hooper Thomas  |  Rosman 

Hooper Thomas | Junior (2020) | 6-foot-4, 185 lbs. | WR/DB

Q: What are your personal goals for this football season?

A:  I want to beat all the records for receiving here at Rosman and to be the best I can be.

 

Q: What coach has had the most impact on you as an athletic and what have you learned from him/her?

A: Coach Matt Stack has had a huge impact on my life.  On and off the field, he has taught me to always fight through adversity and always strive to be the best in America.

 

Q:  Who is your favorite professional football player?

A:  Odell Beckham Jr.

 

Q: What is your favorite local restaurant/food?

A: Twin Dragons Chinese Buffet in Brevard, N.C.

 

Q: What are your goals after high school?

A: I want to play college football and earn my degree. 

 

Q: What’s your favorite sports memory?

A: Has to be a few weeks ago, I caught a 40-yd touchdown pass, and then on the very next play on defense, I had a Pick-Six interception touchdown.

 

Q: What word best describes your playing style?

A: Hungry
