CP Top-20 Power Rankings following Week 8

Week 8 was more about getting back on track for many teams across the state as nearly every school in Eastern N.C. finally returned to the gridiron following Hurricane Florence.  The only team yet to hit the field is Jones Senior, but they’ll be back tomorrow night as they travel to Williamston to take on Riverside Martin.

There isn’t a great deal of change in this week’s rankings, but we did see 3rd ranked Myers Park fall to 11th ranked Butler, and 10th ranked Mooresville fell short against  #5th ranked Vance in last week’s 4A action.

Two teams moving up the ladder in the 4A class is Raleigh Enloe, who at 7-0 is one win away from a school record for wins in a season, and South Central, who also is at 7-0 and lighting up the scoreboard with huge offensive production.

In the 3A ranks, Charlotte Catholic solidified their Top-5 ranking with a 28-7 victory over 8th ranked Sun Valley, while Central Cabarrus bursts into the rankings following their 33-30 overtime victory over Kannapolis Brown.

The only battle of ranked teams in the 2A and 1A classes was played in Bakersville as the Toe River Rivalry saw Mountain Heritage edge Mitchell 24-16.

Remember, these Power Rankings are not a poll of sports writers or other contributors, they are designed to rank the top teams in North Carolina regardless of record.
