Extended Rankings – Week 2

Following every week of the high school football season, we release the CP Power Rankings to showcase the top teams across North Carolina.  In the past, we have posted a Top-25 ranking to allow us to feature more teams, but due to the 20-30-30-20 realignment structure by the North Carolina High School Athletic Association, I decided to scale back the rankings to a Top-15 in the 1A & 4A classes and a Top-20 in the 2A & 3A classes.

In order to come up with what I feel is the absolute best Power Rankings, I spend about six to eight hours every weekend on film study, reading reports, phone calls with coaches, and relying on many years of experience to conjure up these rankings.

Also, I feel the most important aspect to coming up with our CP Power Rankings is to rank every team in the state, not just the Top-20 or Top-15.  Doing this allows me to have a greater knowledge of every team and I feel it makes our rankings a much more accurate portrayal of what’s happening, and what is going to happen through the season.

I’m often asked by fans and coaches alike to release my extended rankings to show where other teams stack up and show which bubble teams may be the next to breakthrough into the main group so here goes!  From this point forward I’ll start posting our CP Extended Rankings following the release of the Power Rankings.
