During the South Caldwell @ Hickory game on 10/7, Hickory attempted an on side kickoff late in the 4th qtr. The kicker appeared to bring his kicking foot in front of the football just prior to making contact with the ball. The refs threw a flag and stopped the play. The call was off sides kicking team. The insuing 3 rekicks resulted in the same call being made. Neither team could understand the call and it eventually led to both home and visitor fans booing and telling the refs to let the kids play. Is the line of scrimmage (position of ball on tee) extend upward and outward like the goal line to infinity and it only needs to be crossed or does position need to be established across?

The kicker is immune to encroachment rules. It's legal for his foot to be beyond the ball. The other 10 players must be behind the line when the ball is kicked.
