* Coach Mickey Wilson isn’t trying to compare quarterback Tyler Keane to Everett Golson, but there is a similarity he’s already starting to see now that Keane is in his second year in the program.
“We run a pretty complicated system from the quarterback standpoint. It gets a lot easier in year two,” Wilson said. “Whether we were switching [quarterbacks] or not, that first year was difficult.”
After rotating with C.J. Cooper last season, the position is all Keane’s this year. Cooper has moved to receiver, although he’ll still see some occasional work behind center in wildcat packages or various trick plays.
* Linebacker Octavius Thomas is back to 100 percent and will be starting again after missing most of last year. Thomas and teammate Sean Michael Orcutt – the team’s leading tacklers each of the last two years – will not be lining up next to each other.
