Some private schools allowed in public play like CC or winston prep?
How contradictory to have all ineligible player rules but allow a reclassifying Scholley offering school in public play?

Winston Salem Prep is a public school. They are a county wide magnet. Same as the two losers in the 1a Regional finals, Rocky Mount Prep and Highland Tech. The NCHSAA's charter allows parochial schools. These are schools that fall under the national guidance of the Catholic Church. Charlotte Catholic is a parochial school that has been in the NCHSAA for over 40 years. They do not reclassify students. No fifth year seniors there. The guidelines for transfers and new residents applying to the three parochial schools that are NCHSAA members are very strict. They do not offer scholarships. Catholic students may qualify for a financial aid package. Over 95% of the students at Catholic went to a Catholic feeder school. One false assumption that many make is that the Big Four in Charlotte (Christian, Country Day, Latin, and Providence Day) reclassify. Not true. They do not allow students to play a fifth year of high school sports. Many think the reason this was done was to help them get CMS to allow their sports teams to play the Big Four. So far has not worked. Last edited by btango; 03-13-2012 at 09:36 PM. |

my mistake, I assumed winston prep, I still don't understand how private schools are allowed to play in a public bracket, I would be ok with it, if they went by public rules

I do not have an issue with Catholic playing in the public league because of the restrictions that they do have placed on them. I understand the concern and the rules could be circumvented but Catholic is not an athletic factory. The football team has been on a great run but they will find the going tougher next alignment. The Olympic sports are definitely going to face much tougher competition. Providence, South Meck, Myers Park and Ardrey Kell are all powerhouses in those.
Go to a Catholic football game and I think you will be surprised by the players. They are not a team loaded with elite athletes. It is evident that they are not draining the public school talent pool of star players. |

Yeah a couple of schools going 4A will not be as dominant as in 3A. Just my thoughts.

Let's see Mooresville goes to 4A and has their longest run in the playoffs in years.Porter Ridge making deep runs in 4A playoffs.Just have to wait and see.Still a good ways off.
