Established in 1948, the North Carolina Coaches Associaton was founded by Bob Jamieson, coach and athletic director at Greensboro High School, and Smith Barrier, the sports editor of the Greensboro Daily News.  The intent was to promote the growth of the high school coaching profession.

The first North Carolina Coaching Clinc and East-West All-Star Game was held in July of 1949.  The first East-West All-Star Games were football and mens' basketball.  Women's Basketball was added in 1975 and both Men's and Women's Soccer was added in 1992.

Each year the games are played during All-Star Week in Greensboro in conjunction with the North Carolina Coaches Clinic.  Each All-Star team is selected by the coaching staff and consist of graduated seniors.
