Varsity girls game was a defensive battle, with Heritage holding Mitchell to 1 point in the first quarter. Game went to half at 20-12 Heritage. Heritage went on to win pretty easily. As I was afraid of this as Mitchell, as has been the case recently, continued to have a difficult time scoring. Heritage defense lead to a lot of the problems. Mitchell must figure out a way to score. On to Owen, who defeated Mitchell 3 times last season.
Still believe this is one of if not the toughest 1a/2a women's bball conference's in the state top to bottom.
Varsity Boys Game, Mitchell came out of the gate strong and held a slight lead at the end of the first quarter. Heritage then made a run to start the 2nd and never looked back winning by 30+. Too much depth and too many weapons for Mitchell to contain.
Heritage could end the Avery streak of conference titles, but then again they have to just go out and prove it.
Looking forward to the next round already.

Good assessment wncbowhunter.
JV girls was tight till the end. Heritage girls shot very poorly and had to make a couple of foul shots late to win.
JV boys played a great 1st half then got really sloppy in the 2nd half settling for too many 3s and rushing too many shots. Allowed Mitchell boys to maybe pull back to within 6 or 8, can't remember. Credit to Mitchell for not quitting and finishing strong. JV guys have a lot of talent and when they play under control they are a handful. The future for Heritage boys looks good for next 3 years at least. MItchell has some good guys to step up to varsity next year as well. Sparks, Ward, Ledford all had good games and the Hoilman kid is very athletic.
Varsity girls I would fully agree with your assessment. They do not have a lot of size on the perimeter and the Heritage defense pretty much smothered their scorers. Mitchell can do well in the 1A playoffs, but may need to find a way to get the ball inside to Buchanan. I'm sure they will face a lot of size come playoff time. Heritage shot poorly for most of the game, but played hard and picked up a convincing win. I would agree with Heritage, Mitchell, Avery, Madison and Owen girls all strong, this may be one of the toughest years ever in the WHC.
Varsity boys for Heritage came out very flat and out of sync. Hopefully somewhat due to anxiety of a big rival game and good effort from the Mitchell defense. 6 points in a quarter is not very good with Shelton getting very few touches in the first quarter. Standing about 5 inches taller than anyone on the floor, I look for that to change. A lot of early turnovers and forced shots. Guys started settling down in the 2nd quarter and came out in the 3rd firing. Depth for Heritage tends to wear teams down later in games. But we have to get out of the gate better Good 2nd half for Heritage taking control and not looking back. Big game Friday night at home vs a very good Avery squad.
