RS Central came from behind to beat McDowell 72-70 in Rutherfordton. RS isnt bad but McDowell will struggle some this year due to their lack of height

Freedom beat Patton by over 20 and seems miles ahead of other teams in the Northwestern conference

Butler 78 Rocky River 72

Avery beat West Caldwell by 3

Wakefield 84 Northwood 78

North Gaston 44 East Gaston 41

Patriots looked good, but Hickory is still undefeated.  Pats and Tornadoes in two weeks at Hickory.  Last night Michael Logan led Freedom with 20 points and had dunks on two consecutive possessions.  Otherwise good balance-Jakari Dula with 15 and Fletcher Abee with 14, two others with 8 apiece.

Lady Pats had a good effort and got contributions from several girls:  Freshman Adair Garrison looked good, as did Soph Makayla Moore.  Biggest problem for Lady Pats was foul trouble.  Lady Pats had no senior starters last night-and may be a year away-but have impressed me so far.  If they can get by Draughn Thursday I am looking forward to the East Burke game to see how they match up.

I think Freedom will be quite a bit better than Hickory. RS is much improved from last season and currently 6-0 but McDowell just doesnt have their usual post presence

I believe it will be based on record, so could be possible for all six to make it, but unlikely.

Edit-last year 6 out of 8 NW3A/4A teams made the playoffs including every 3A school except  St Stephens, so if they go by the same system it might be possible for all teams in a six team league to go.

Lady Pats beat Draughn 49-39 and FHS boys win 68-60. Neither team played particularly well and the girls have a big test hosting East Burke Friday night. That game should give us a better idea how good the Lady Pats are.

E. Burke and FHS was canceled for tonight, but when they do play it will be a big game for the girls, per the Maxpreps rankings E. Burke is top ranked in 2A, 4th in NC and 96th nationally, while Freedom is top ranked in 3A, 19th in the state and 319th nationally.   Lady Patriots won the season series last year 2-1 and both teams advanced to their respective regional finals.

Edit: Maxpreps says the game will now be Tuesday.

East Burke girls are the truth, they dominated McDowell easily and once without 2 of their top players. McDowell arent what they used to be but they are improving. Freedom may very well be better but East Burke looks like a legit state title team to me.

Sounds like East Burke is the real deal. I will say this Ive seen North Wilkes four times in the last year and they are a pretty good 2a ladies team. Currently ranked 10th?

As for 3a in my opinion without seeing them do not believe Freedom is #1 just based on youth but time will tell. They are always a good well coached team of ladies!

As for the NPC max preps has it all screwed up. West Rowan is over ranked at 7th. Saw them over summer and was not much competetion for North Iredell but regular season is much differant. North iredell ladies ranked 11th? Think maybe over ranked there also. (and thats my home team) LOL. But Carson is under ranked at 13th. Without seeing those ladies play yet it looks like they are the best team in NPC.

I look forward to conference play and see how all this pans out!

I will say South, LKN, Statesville all have legit talent n players but Right Now Looks like LKN has the upper hand in their play bc SI had a bad game vs Concord which they won but it was sloppy and Statesville started 0-3 they have started winning but not vs good teams n also

E. Burke girls won 70-56. Freedom missed opportunities on three straight possessions down 8 in the fourth quarter, have to get points when you get the chance when you’re down. The Lady Cavs are not going to scare anyone getting off the bus, but they shoot the ball well, don’t make many mistakes and are deadly at the free throw line.

Freedom boys routed the Cavs 64-19. I think it was 49-13 at the half and we had a running clock for most of the second half. Jakari Dula had a big game as did Fletcher Abee.

Lincoln Charter is very good, but honestly Cox Mill has had a couple of close games so far (Kings Mountain and Rocky River), or at least closer than I would have expected. So I wonder if they put in the subs when they get so far ahead and then coast or if they are just working out how best to use all of that talent since adding Black since last year.
