Take it all around what year would have been the best team you pull for has had?

With South Iredell I probably will go will the 2012 season.
Even though they went 14-2 they probably would not had lost those 2 games if a key player that was injured was out. But they still went on to win the 2AA State Championship game.

1994 or 2014 would be my guess. '94 went undefeated, beat the 3A champs Burns and beat the '95 champs West Charlotte. Only gave up 94 points but they only averaged 24 ppg that season. '14 went undefeated, beat the 2A champ Shelby and beat the 3 time defending state champs Havelock in the title game. This team only gave up 83 points the entire season and had a better scoring average but I wouldn't call them an offensive juggernaut. '96 could also be considered as they went 14-0-1 with the lone time to a Kings Mountain team that had an undefeated regular season and went on a couple deep runs in 97 and 98 as well as postseason wins over Independence, at Page and perennial runner up Douglas Byrd. The stretch of 2000-02 produced some great regular season records but you have to win the big one.

For me, the 2011 Mooresville team was great and one of the best defense I have seen at Mooresville. also We lost in the Semi Finals but we didn't have our starting QB that game.

Also the Late 90s n early 2000s had some great teams as well

Nobody tops the early 2000's Independence teams...total dominance for several years.

For McDowell its slim picking for sure haha.. Probably best team they had was 1993. Only playoff win in team history that year over Mt. Tabor and a close loss in the 2nd round to S. Meck

New Bern 2012 and 2014.

2012 team had a prolific offense that averaged 43 points a game, boy that team was fun to watch. Josh Taylor had over 2,600 yards passing and 1400 yards rushing while accounting for 40 TD's.

2014 had one of the best defenses in school history, giving up 8 points a game. You'll usually win a fair share of games when you have a defense that gives up 8 points a game and  one of the best athletes in the state in Mike Hughes under center.

Northern Guilford 2012, TJ Logan rushing for at title game record 510yds. Blowing out a pretty good Charlotte Catholic team 64-26. Who had Elijah Hood

2011 team wasn't all that shabby either. Only loss that season was to Page the undefeated 4AA champs.

That Reynolds team wasnt even the best team in Asheville! Forget all time. We had a receiver have 250+ receiving yards AT reynolds when we beat reynolds that year with their "above and beyond great" defense.

1999 AC Reynolds Rockets, 4A State Champs (when there were only 4 state champs). 77 total points allowed in 16 games and 8 shutouts. Sure Asheville beat them, but lots of GREAT teams have lost one games. By the way how did that '99 Asheville team fair in the State Finals?

And everyone of the Asheville players, coaches and fans would have taken a 7-0 win in their state finals! Pretty it up all you want, the number of rings still don't match ACR.

That 7-0 win over Byrd was a barn burner. Byrd seemed ready to bust loose all game but ACR just kept finding a way to string out the run. Yes they lost but that was one of the best defenses in WNC in decades.

ACR was weak at defensive back but its awful hard to throw when you have to look out of the D end and Tackles ear hole every play.

Do you mean 2005 when they won it on a sleeper play?

It was the state title game. Who cares how they won it. You act like they were playing a nobody.

That Asheville team had a target on it's back from everyone. There aren't many of the great teams that ever have 1 NFL player let alone 2. That Asheville team with 15-0, won the title and over the span of 15 games, only gave up 6.6ppg.

Take ANY of the great teams NC has ever put out and that one could have competed with ANY of them. They had that much talent.

What do you mean I act like they were playing nobody? He said 2004 and I was asking if he had been mistaken and meant 2005 when they won on a sleeper play.

Who got your pannies in a wad this morning?

Were you around when that sleeper play happened? There were a lot of fans that tried to trash AVL on the other forum because of it. My apologies if I read it wrong. I read it as 'they won it on a sleeper play, no way they were the best'. Again, my apologies. It just sounded like an old argument...........

I have no issue with it, it was a legal play at last check. They won fair and square. No gripe from me about it.

No worries. I just read too much into it. Haven't seen it mentioned in a while, just thought it ironic that it was brought up in the 'best team' thread.

Again, my apologies.

I'll admit going into that Richmond game I didn't have the highest expectations for Reynolds. Thought Richmond wasn't as strong as the year prior but that the winning streak would continue.

They did not beat the defending Texas state champion.  They beat Denison which I think finished the 1999 season at 5-5 and 6-4 the previous season.

Denison won the state title in 1984 and made it to the finals in 1995, 96, and 97 losing by fairly wide margins.

After watching Anson and West Charlotte I expected ACR to beat Anson.  Went to the Richmond game and expected it would be tight because Richmond relied nearly totally on the running game.  ACR was built to play the run and neither of those two teams, and definitely not Byrd, were able to throw the ball much at all.  Was not very impressed with Richmond that year in comparison to the two previous seasons.  West Charlotte relied on the run and was weak at QB.  Probably their weakest team along with 1994 squad during the Knotts era.
