James Kenan has hired former Shelby Crest head coach Will Clark to replace Ken Avent Jr.
Clark was 25-4 in two seasons as HC at Crest with one state 3A title (16-0) in 2015. The hire was approved by the Duplin County Board of Education Tuesday night, per the Duplin Times Facebook page today.

Dude went 25-4 in 2 years. He had some studs but so does JK most of the time. If he takes over as DC or keep who you have, and hires an offensive coach, should be pretty good. If it is true that Avent is staying on staff as an assistant then that will make this transition much more difficult. Tough to establish your way of doing things with the former HC on staff.

Very long way to move for a football job and from schools with higher ADMs. Primary run style with smaller eastern schools while western schools like throwing the ball around. He should fit in fine.

Don't forget he's from Eastern NC. He'll adapt just fine.

JK has thrown it around recently with Avent at QB.  His father, the former HC, was the career passing leader at Catawba at one time.  Not sure if he still is.  Coach told me in the past he ran an offense was more geared to the players and had no problem changing it up to fit that.
