9/29 BYE

Sad to see that the Union Pines/North Moore football series has come to an end after 52 seasons.  The series ended with UP winning the last 11 games, and finishing with a 39-18 all-time record over the Mustangs.  Of the last 11 wins, only two were shutouts and only one win was by 42 points or more.  I have seen much more dominant rivalries.

I do not understand why Albemarle, a fellow Yadkin Valley 1A conference member, wound up on the schedule.  Nothing against the Bulldogs, but Albemarle is not the same program as it once was during its state championship runs in the 2000s.  Last season, Albemarle went 1-10, as its only win came against an undermanned South Davidson team.  Also, seven of those ten losses were by 42 points or more.  I don't know if they even fielded a JV squad last season.  Not sure of what's happening in Stanly County regarding redistricting and merging of some schools.  I'm not sure what those folks want, as they claim they want to take their present four major high schools and drop down to two or three major high schools serving the county.

It would have been better if UP could have scheduled Pinecrest (huge gate), or even another 2A or 3A team instead of the lowly Bulldogs.

they are most likely trying to get as many wins as possible.  a big gate doesn't help you make the playoffs.......wins do

UP has not historically scheduled very strong. I agree with you RD on Albemarle. That game should not be on their schedule

might have also been scheduling conflicts.....games were hard to come by this year b/c of so many big conferences.

West Montgomery would welcome UP I'm sure. Maybe next year.

But, a large gate helps pay the bills.  By the way, did Albemarle field a JV squad last year?

UP-WM was a big rivalry from the 70s-90s.  And, WM had a huge winning streak over UP from the mid-70s to the late 90s.  Maybe this rivalry can get restarted down the road.

I heard that Jordan-Matthews was dropped because they had no JV team.  At least North Moore had a JV squad.

very true.  6 of one...half a dozen of the other.....there is good and bad to both.....you play a big gate like that...you will def make the money......that is if you get enough people to come out to the games.....

North Moore and Pinecrest will bring in folks.  I doubt Albemarle will bring in folks.  And, it will most likely be a UP rout.  Other than that, the rest of the non-conference schedule looks decent.  Don't know about the conference schedule.  Could be favorable except for Lee County and Triton away.

going to be very interesting to see how the new conference plays out RD.  out of all the teams in the conference......Lee and Triton are the only ones with the same HC.
