Ben Hammer stepped down this morning at East Montgomery HS and has accepted the head coaching position at Rock Island HS in Illinois. Hammer compiled a 22-5 record at East.

Don't care if you're an east or west fan, no denying that guy did an incredible job. Best of luck to him in Illinois

Congrats to Coach Hammer. Even he knows when to abandon ship! He did wonders at that place. Good luck finding someone to come in and take on that job. Please all of my Eagle followers jump in and tell us how great of a job it is and how the people will be lining up to take over!!

Don't have to. Not even 48 hrs into the search 30+ applicants. Should be fun

Is that stud RB staying there? Saw he was listed as a JR. What kind of offense did Hammer run?

The stud is on the West side, and yes he will be a Junior.

The stud you speak of Steelers will be a senior at East next year, Courtney McKinney. Hammer ran a spread, counter read system very well. Warrior is speaking of their Sophomore running back at west, Rhone, who yes is also very talented

Yes, McKinney. I just saw he had a ton of yards the past two years. At least what stats I could find. I know Hammer did a great job there. They have always been pretty average til he got there. Wonder how they would be if they had the same facilities they have over at West. Such as the indoor facility. That's a major bonus for any coach or player looking to go to a school. Don't know how easy it is for kids to move in that county, so may be a moot question. Thanks for the info. FBfan70

If West had one RB they gave 30+ carries a game to they would have put up as much probably more yards than McKinney. Facilities are a bonus but has nothing to do with strapping them up on Friday nights and playing ball. West had 2 studs at RB and also a 3rd they didn't need. Not taking anything away from McKinney but West had more backs, East had ONE.

And if McKinney was smart he would move back to the West side.

199 carries divided by 13 games played (didn't play South Davidson) = 15.3 carries per game. He wasn't toting it 30+ a game.

McKinney is a beast.  Ran for 255 vs. Union Pines.

Got to give love to the big men up front for opening the holes for him. One is a state champion wrestler this year.

Rhone and Leake 290 carries 2,758 yards; McKinney 199 carries 2,730 yards.

^ well there you go. Great stat. All 3 kids listed are studs. Back to the topic at hand. Who are candidates here? Does East try and move quickly since West has just named a coach?

I don't think they need to move quickly, I think they need to make sure they make the right choice but With West having a HC it may influence there pick but East need to make a hire soon tho as it's getting closer to off season workouts n the season
