Belmont South Point Red Raider Tanner Muse partially blocked a first half punt by laying out his body. Tanner is a freshman safety. I saw Muse play many times in high school and the guy was wicked fast. Big kid at safety being 6'4" and 220. Could have been a huge offensive weapon in high school but ran the ball less than one would expect. Glad to see him playing and getting a ring.

Carlos Watkins had a great game at defensive end. Had some great tackles. Only saw Carlos play once as my son lined up across from him in a Chase High vs Newton-Conover game. Watkins at tight end and my son at linebacker. About 90lbs difference so it was not even a match. Watkins was in a car accident while at Clemson where the driver was fatally killed. Watkins was trapped in the car for an hour before being taken to the hospital. He had blood clots that kept him away from football and almost ended his football. He stuck to it and now he is a national champion. Congrats to Carlos for working his way back. Chase High has another big timer.

You don't have to play for a big school or even a championship school. Attend camps and play hard and they find you.

Dexter Lawrence from Wake Forest

Sean Pollard from Pinecrest

Mark Fields from Hough

Van Smith from Hough/West meck

I'm not a huge Dabo guy but he is killing the state schools in NC. Wonder what UNC would have looked like this year with Watkins and Lawrence on the Dline.

For the elite 4/5 star kids, its an easy choice. They have better facilities, better staffs, more passionate fans, win more, and have a better game day atmosphere than any school in the state of NC. On top of all that they now have a national title under their belt. Just got the #1 Qb in 2018 to commit and he is coming from Georgia. UGA has historically locked down that state.

Strong possibility UNC goes back to irrelevancy once Fedora dips out for a bigger job.

No offense intended because I have been a UNC fan for a long time, but in response to Wiseman's post, when has Carolina ever been relevant on the National stage? I mean being realistic, even in the Mack Brown era they were never seen as a National power. Doesn't mean they haven't had some good teams and some ranked teams, just no relevant teams.

I agree 1000%. Its just been more recently that its been Clemson. They always got a few but now they are crushing it. I mean even on the sidelines there are a half dozen more stellar kids. Overton, Powell etc,etc

A little info on where the starters come from.

Alabama's starting 22 come from eleven states. Alabama produces nine with two from city of Auburn. Only two come from Florida. Two from Texas, Virginia, and New Jersey. One each from Indiana, Iowa, California, Mizzou, Louisiana, and Georgia. Punter is from Colorado and the kicker from Georgia. That is pretty national.

Clemson's starting 22 come from eight states. SC supplies seven. North Carolina five! Georgia four. Florida two (surprise). Tennesse, Mass, Maryland, and Virginia have one each. Punter is from NC and kicker from SC.

Four total from Florida which was low to me while Virginia had three which was surprising.

I remember a couple decades ago seeing an article where 12 of the top 25 recruits in North Carolina went to Clemson and South Carolina. The atmosphere is very different on game day at these schools when recruits show up. For an 18 year old it means something special. Carolina game day doesn't even rival App State much less a national program.

UNC needs to go down to Oxford, Mississippi on a fall Saturday and see how the Ole Miss faithful do it.  It is a finer wine and cheese but football is the main course.  As good as it gets outside the stadium on game day but they dress it up real dandy.

Run down that hill one time..listen to 85,000+ at 135 decibels..watch 100,000 orange ballons rise into the sky.....that's all it takes.

Yeah, but I f'ing hate orange.

Byrnes HS does a good job of semi recreating that.  They do the police car and fire truck escort from the field house to the opposite end of the field and have a small hill that enters the stadium on the home side.  Good atmosphere if you catch it later in the year when it is dark and the lights really stand out.

If Clemson were 8-4 and UNC just won the title people would question what the big deal about atmosphere is.  I have been to games all over the US and this past fall went to two new ones and a few others I had been to previously.  Iowa was unreal.  SEC like.  Oregon was a big disappointment, both inside and outside the stadium.

Oregon fans, to me, are Flavor-Of-The-Month fans. When they're hot, they're supportive, when they're not, they stay home.

The crowd in Norman is great before and during the game I saw annihilate K-State in the snow and it was packed and loud.
