Red Raiders finish the playoffs allowing a paltry 2.6 points per game. Dang!

ACR allowed 4.8 points and pitched 9 shutouts that season.

Chris just interested in hearing your thoughts on the outcome of the SP/RM game. I watched the video earlier this week with a panel of 3 when you predicted RM would beat SP while the other gentlemen predicted SP. This is not to challenge you on your prediction but I would like to know what you feel happen in the game versus what you expected from either team that made your prediction incorrect.

Shelby has been pretty stout on defense, but not quite SP or ACR. Here are their points allowed the last 4 years.

2013: 11.8

2014: 10.2

2015: 15.4

2016: 10.6

ACR played in a non subdivided period.

A teams offense dictates to some extent what the defense will do. If an offense scores quickly a high rate it outs the defense on the field more.

SP rubs a more deliberate running style that works the clock. Shelby's O is high octane scoring often and quickly. It makes a difference.

It sure does. Also with the proliferation of the spread offense the defensive average allowed has went up. Its relative.

South Point has it in my opinion for the 3A. They were very impressive as was Weddington.

Notice Weddington is also a more methodical team on offense.

Couple of things to consider....with those shutouts South Point handed out who handed them a shutout....lol!

Also, you have to really break down the Shelby defense.  With the exception of the Huss game and Crest game, most points were scored on the second and third team defenses.  There were several games that the 1st team defense sat out the entire second half both this year and last.

I look for us to be extremely strong on the defensive side of the ball next season.  Our defense should carry us as we "Drive for Five".

Think this thread is talking about playoff defenses?

Figure Shelby starters played majority of last three games of said playoffs where they allowed 46 points.

OK done breaking it down.

Sorry snowed in and bored. Got to try and get something stirred up today.  :P

Did you look at the actual playoff points against?

Why yes I did look at breakdown of games. Just used the last 3 in coming up with total for Shelby. However if you want to play here is what SP defense gave up in 2016 playoffs

3 shutouts and 2 single digit points allowed. While Shelby held 4 of 5 under 10 points they did allow one team to put up 33. Sorry still think giving up 13 points versus 53 is better.

But if you want to throw out teams worst games we can as they may be anomalies.

So if we do that Shelby allowed 20 points in 4 games for a 5 ppg average.

SP allowed 6 points in 4 games for 1.5 ppg average.

So...

Comparing different personnel on defense doesn't work. SP clearly played better defense despite who was on the field, first string or waterboy.

YEs Shelby is very good on both sides of the ball but in this instance their playoff defense was not as good.
