Ken Avent is added to this years Shrine Bowl roster as a QB in replacement of Dudley's Hendon Hooker and Page's Will Jones.

I thought he was injured most if the year?

My recommendation on QB in this game is they need to be very big and/or super athletic and able to run. This game is usually dominated by the D Line.

I hate that he was injured most of year but being deserving of a shrine bowl invite? Not real sure about that. Last season yes. This season no.

His total accomplishments warrants the nod I think. Even though it was not against WRH.

Ken Avent III is one of the best HS QBs I have seen in my own eyes. He can do a lot of things with his arm and legs that most OBs can not. Ask any coach from the carolina 1A, WRH, or any other coach that has seen him play if he is deserving.

This is going to be a tough game for Avent facing nothing but weak/small 1A/2A schools to facing players from 3A-5A defenses...wish him luck though.

The difference of the athlete is tough but he will also go against players that play the pass at a big time level in a game that normally sees the defense with an advantage. Will need to make time with his feet and get rid of the ball quickly.

I would think Chris Reynolds from Davie would play QB. You want to talk about dynamic. Always to good to see kids from duplin county in the shrine bowl because we get overlooked a lot.

Reynolds will get a shot. The main QB will be Jack Davidson from Myers Park. Reynolds will possibly play some slot. For him to be successful in this game they will need to have him rolling out and not pass from the pocket.

He will be just fine! I'm pretty sure you will see! Very deserving of this spot

I am not questioning if he will do well or if the spot is deserved.

Which of my statements in the post do you disagree with:

1. He is playing against better athletes than he is accustomed to? He will also have better
players around him
2. Most teams he plays against do not normally go against teams that throw the ball often?
3. The defense historically has an advantage in this game?
4. Due to #3 and him not being a physically large QB he will need to avoid the rush and not hold the ball too long?

From being around Avent Jr I think he is smart and savvy enough that he will be able to overcome most of what SC will throw at him but it is an uphill battle for almost every QB in this contest.

Congrats to him. A 1a QB being chosen is a big deal.

No way he should be on there this year. Being injured does not give someone a pass to float on last years stats. If any 1A qb should have went it was the qb from Murphy, who didn't throw his first pick until today in state title game

No pass attempts in stats. Heard he played one series. His father coached the QBs. His father is a very good coach and was an all timer at Catawba.

That 3A-5A stuff does not matter all the time.  Just as many of those guys that played in that game have gone on to college to be average.  Only a select few are truly elite.  It is just a game were coaches pick kids to fit the type of scheme they are going to run.  I think Avent was working on getting into this game before his injury.

Well deserved! One of the best QBs I've seen in high school football.  I may be bias but the kid is multi-dimensional and D1 material.

Watched some clips on Avent. Murphy kid better passer. Avent faster a little more adgile. Avent looked like he would be hard to deal with. Curry cut his hand (index finger of throwing hand) bad on first series went back in bad sprang ankle after that (taped it went back in) stitches after game.Couldn't throw well after that.  Maybe next year for Curry. There will be a few good QB's in west next year. I think the Avent kid deserves it. Looks the part to me. Good for him.
