Great hire by the Redskins. Manteo's program should return to a top spot in 1-A football in the East. Good luck Freddie!

Best of luck to Sport. Sport Sawyer's son will be a sophomore next year and I'm sure he'll start at QB. He has a cannon for an arm and should add a passing game to their game play. Any speed at all at the wide out position and Manteo could be very exciting.

Well the Redskins are back. Sport is a great coach and will quickly turn around Manteo. Maybe we''' get the fabled Murphy to Manteo finals

In 13 years at the helm of Washington, Coach Sawyer accumulated a 94-70 record against some of the toughest competition in the area. Playing in 3A until 2013, Sawyer had to deal with the likes of Havelock not only in the regular season, but the playoffs as well. in 2012, he coached his 1st 10 win season. Then came the 2013 realignment, and Washington was placed in the 2A ranks, and they really took off, including losing to East Lincoln in a classic 2014 2AA Championiship game. That speaks volumes to what he can do with Manteo.

I do want to recognize what Coach Eddie Twyne has done with this Manteo program. In 10 years, he went 80-47, and had a good 4 year run from 2009-2012. They were a force to be reckoned with in 1A during that time, but just couldn't get past Plymouth.

Sawyer has his work cut out for him in that regard, not only having to deal with Coach Robert Cody of Plymouth every year, but also Coach Paul Hoggard of Edenton as well. It's going to be a fun year next year. Best of luck, Coach!!

This is great news for the 1A East side of the bracket. This move will help make that side more competitive and less the Plymouth show. It might take a little while but I see Manteo back in a title game eventually.

Coach Sawyer's Washington team was fun to watch in that title game so I expect that to continue here.

Plymouth vs Manteo will be a great rivalry game again. Throw Edenton into the mix and this new conference can see barn burner games each week. At least the next 4 years should be a lot of fun. More excitement, less blowouts!

Sport Sawyer is an excellent hire.  Heard he was railroaded out by one of his asst coaches.......An asst coach now is the HC at Washington.

Sport will be fine.  Who wants to coach at Washington?  When they were in NB's conference.....dead atmosphere and not a football town.
