TUESDAY SCORE

Belgium 2

USA 1

Sadly the run for the US ends but they showed promise with a lot of young players coming up and rising to the occasion....as long as Klinsmann is our coach(you never know these days) I am very confident US soccer is heading in the right direction. However for now Belgium is through to the quarterfinals

Tim Howard was a brick wall though, if not for him we lose by a lot.  I'm glad that we didn't quit when we got down 2-0, but Howard was definitely our MVP.

Yes he is...hopefully we can get another great goalie like him for the 2018 games should be not be there which at age 35 it is pretty likely he won't be there. However I do like what I saw from several players who were in their first world cup esp. Green who scored the goal for the US today he will be a good one for us. As someone who watched soccer year round mostly the premier league I can say many of these players will improve and get better....2018 may be the year the US advances past the round of 16 for the first time since 2002

Our backup keeper is Brad Guzan. He plays for my favorite team, Aston Villa. There will be not much dropoff if he is our starter in 2018.

More of our guys need to go to the EPL.

We have:

Altidore- Sunderland
Howard- Everton
Cameron- Stoke City
Guzan- Aston Villa

And Julian Green plays for Bayern Munich who is of course a great German club

I agree. But the MLS is not set up to be as good as the EPL. While they have their developmental teams that lead up to their pro team, and kids focus on nothing but furthering their soccer careers, while we have college soccer and then some go on to play MLS.

I have noticed for foreign players who are pretty good are starting to play in MLS which will bring up the level of play and increase the brand but it is no where near the 3 leagues I named earlier

Germany laying it to Brazil, 5-0 within the first 30 minutes of play!  I'd like to think that high school teams would not be getting beaten this badly.

ESPN had an interesting take on yesterday's game this morning: they compared Germany's seven goals with other sports using scoring averages from all those sports and the extent to which seven goals represents a deviation from that average.  IIRC it was like an MLB team scoring 22 runs in a game (which i think they said has happened once in the last four years), and NFL team scoring over 100 points and an NBA team scoring something like 484 points.

I'll admit that I was pretty bored during today's match and I doubt that the krauts can match what they did yesterday, but I still favor them to win it all (unless it come down to PKs, then who knows-I honestly think it's a pretty stupid way to determine a winner with the stakes so high).
